Clutch cable

on a scale of 1 to 1o how much of a pain in the ass is a clutch cable replacement? Would you also change the quadrant anyways just because your replacing the cable? I'm not a mechanic but i'm pretty good with my Haynes manual and my hands. Just wondering what I would be getting myself into because this is my daily driver and I'm a teachers so i only have the weekends to accomplish any work on my car.

No sweat. Cable can be done in minutes once you know what you are doing - it takes about as much time to get it up and on stands as it does to swap cable. Routing the cable is the hardest part so note where yours runs before pulling it. There is one screw on the bracket attached to the cable and one on the dust-cover of the trans. No other tools required.

With the stock quadrant, hook the trans side first and then lift up on the clutch pedal and hook up the pedal side. Operate the clutch and it will self adjust.

With aftermarket, it does not matter which side you hook up first - use the firewall adjuster to take out most of the slack.

Just make sure to use a good cable. Some of the aftermarket ones out there are crap and stretch. A new Ford part is safe as well as some of the bigger aftermarket names.

does it matter that the car is a 3.8L? can i just use any cable package or does it have to be specifically for a 3.8L

I would suggest getting one that is attached to a 4.6L!

Same cable should work for both. Clutch pedal is the same and movement arm for the throw out bearing is in same location.
