clutch help needed!?!?

i have a 1970 302 motor that i rebuilt and i want to mate it to a t-5 trans. it is going in a fox body. i was just wondering, will a flywheel for a 1970 motor be compatable with a 79-93 clutch kit. i was thinking about using an aluminum flywheel but i read they are not recomended for street use!? is this true and why? last question is with my motor, it has the following :9.6 to 1 speedpro pistons comp cams 270h cam, mac 1 5/8 shorty headers, comp hydraulic lifters, melling high volume oil pump, holley street dominator intake, holley 600, mac h pipe and cat back exhaust, accel 300+ racing ignition. is this a good street combo and what kind of power should i expect out of this? thanks for any advice that can be given. i havent got the engine started yet due to elctrical problems

I think I can answer some of your questions. the reason they don't recommend an aluminum flywheel is because it doen't smooth out engine vibration well enough and isn't to comfortable to drive ecspecially with a 5spd. now I don't know about the 79-93 clutch kits mating up to it, i can't really think why they wouldn't and as for power, i'd say 300+ at the crank, but i'm not as good guessing carbed motors opposed to EFI HP #'s.

The 302 engines up until I think 82 used a 28 oz flywheel/flexplate, 83 or so they changed to a 50 oz style.

the flywheel you refer too will not work, and does not have the correct weight.

I'm not sure as to the teeth on the 86-93 10.5 inch flywheels, but I'm pretty sure they are 164 teeth

What you'll need is a flywheel with a 28 oz displacement to work with that 70 302, and I'm fairly certain 164 teeth to work with the t5 bell and starter. Ford never made such a beast, but the aftermarket did, check ebay and summit.

well, ****, I just re read your post. your older flywheel is I think 157 tooth. I'm pretty sure the t5 has a bigger bell designed for the 164 tooth bigger flywheels, so if you use the old school flywheel, then it may not work with the starter.

what does the older flywheel measure??? todays clutches are designed for a 10.5 inch flywheel.

You got to be in the 200+hp or more as for the fly wheel I think it says not for street just because its made for higher rpm's what does that have to do with it nothing. They are not cheap I would say if you were a racer, yes but steel ones aftermarket would be
better save money for other things. True about clutch too. 86+ is bigger, better, you want to get a fly wheel that lets you run 86+
clutch. Get a aluminum driveshaft instead of """"" flywheel...you will appreciate that more. Unless you really mod your motor.
