I just finished a motor rebuild/3550 swap and the clutch is acting up. When i push the pedal in its really hard to push in and it makes a screaching sound almost like its binding on something. It sounds like its coming from the pedal but im not sure. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance.

I put a new one in it. I might drop my transmission today to see what the problem is.

What clutch is it? I have gone through 3 diff brands and the only one that was halfway easy to press was the Centerforce. Does it make the noise as you are pressing it or when it is fully engaged?

Without being able to hear or look at it it's just a blind guess. I have seen the petal itself bind up from rust at it's pivot point but that was on a car that sat in a field exposed to the elements for a few years. Possibly the cable itself could have been mashed or pinched at some point.

i got up under the dash today and it looks like the sound is coming from the cable rubbing the firewall adjuster.

I dont know why it would be hitting that though because it was fine before i started all the work.

Strange how things seem to happen on their own sometimes. I blame the gremlins, destructive little bastards. I seem to keep at least one lurking in my car all the time.
