What an awesome summer. Yes, I've been lurking this forum all summer along with many others I'm sure... watching Stangreak's adventures, rebuilding his car several times

I think my car needs a new clutch. When I'm cruising in 5th and stomp on it... the RPMs climb instead of the car bogging down. Damn, only 45K km on the stock one.

It's not a job I'm looking to take on myself -- any recommendations... where can I take my ride to get good work done around Ottawa? There's no way I'm taking it to Ford to get raped with their rates and to hear them bad-talk the mods I've done to my car... cash job or garage, I'm just looking for someone who does good work. Thanks...

Actually Ron I rebuilt it one time but had a few problems on the way.

It seems that your clutch is fried. I fried mine in the spring. It was doing the same thing in every gear. Jumping in the rpm's all the time. Couldnt even pass another car basicly. I had a Spec stageII in there. With like 2000 kms or less.. But I didnt break it in properly so I blame it on myself. I got to say that I enjoy the Ford King Cobra clutch that I have right now. It grabs pretty nice. And for the money you cant beat that.

I have no clue what they charge for a clutch install. In the spring while the stock motor was in and was running fine, I did the install myself in the driveway. I'm glad I saved that $$$ and did it myself. Maybe you should try too.

Stage II... I've read mostly good things about the spec clutches... that's weird. I was considering a stage 1 which is supposed to be good for 410 ft/lb of torque.

How are you supposed to "break in" a clutch?

That,s funny because I think I do need a new clutch aswell for next summer haha, the friction point stands so high right now its insane

I think it's even 500 miles so about 800kms. As soon as I had mine I went on the track to race it and do a lot of big burnouts so no wonder it was fried. Thats the thing about Spec, they're good clutches but you gotta threat them good in the beginning for the break in period or else you'll end up like me.

yeh I would say...

yeh around 800km break in... with lots of stoping and starting driving... just not highway km's....

I would give it a go.. you should have no probs doing the swap... like Stangfreak says its nice to save the $$$ by doing it yourself.. plus u get the satisfaction of doing it yourself in the end also...

I like my Centerforce Dual Friction,, have had no probs with it... bites well... good with 5000rpm launches and 11.8 1/4 mile times... and 1.6 sec 60 foot times also

My new FORD RACING HEAVY DUTY clutch also failed this year.. put about 3,000km's on it.
DO NOT buyt this clutch. Got it from Ford installed by Ford.
Since it's a "racing clutch" there it no warranty and i am SOL.
Had i bought the stock unit - they would have replaced it for me they said.

Call Stalker Performance and have Chris Klein from Campbell Ford do the job for you. Stalker will farm out work to Chris who will do it in his shop so just call and tell him you want Klein to do it.
