So I put in a new clutch when I put my motor back in. I had to adjust it to within like a quarter inch of the end of the threads(by the clutch fork) to get it to work. Then it was still grinding a little into reverse so I adjusted it to almost all the way. Before i tried it again I lifted up on the pedal to set the self-adjuster or whatever and there was kind of a loud click or pop, not the normal small click, and now the pedal is totally spongy and I can barely get it in gear if at all. Everything looks fine underneath at the bellhousing and at the firewall, and I really cant see anything obviously wrong in the quadrant area either but Im assuming that it has to be something in that area. Is it common for any thing to pop out of place or for the quadrant to snap? Im looking for ideas at this point.

Get up under there and look really good , The stock quadrant is plastic and you may have broken it . The stock quadrant use small teeth that mesh together with the adjuster , over time they get brittle and can break . I think an after market quadrant is your best bet .

Your cable may be stretched.. I think its time for you to pick up an aluminum quadrant un-adjustable cabl and the bbk firewall mount adjuster.

your setup is ass backwards.

you can't run an adjustable cable with a stock plastic quadrant.

your cable probably snapped. pick up a stock non adj cable from buyfordracing.com (cheapest oem one available) and pick up a good quadrant and fwa. Read the sig in my link for more info

i just went with the FWA, quadrant and non-adjustable cable from maximum motorsports and i love it. the cable is a little pricy over just a stock replacement, but i just bought the whole kit so...

It could be a cable or quadrant issue. When you replaced the clutch did you replace the cable? Do you still have the stock quadrant? Before going out and buying a bunch of new parts, you should identify what the actual problem is so you don't waste your money.

My '83 was the same way. I put a quadrant and FW adjuster on and cured it. I still think I need a new cable though, but that can wait since it's not on the road right now.

I know the quadrant is stock, and I thought that the cable was too??.., so the stock cable doesn't have a threaded end that goes through the clutch fork? ..Anyway, I got it fixed. I had the cable adjusted too tight and the quadrant wouldnt return correctly and would get stuck in a weird position... It is a *****ty set-up that I plan on replacing soon anyway, Im just trying to get it running having just dropped a motor in.
