Clutch Making A Whoosing Sound

This is in my Mach 1. Clutch is about 2.5 years old, about 16K miles on it (it doesn't get driven too much).
Essentially, when depressing or releasing the clutch a whoosing sound is made. Don't really know how else to describe it. It's not your typical TOB noise - I know that sound very well. But I have to think it must be the pilot bearing or TOB...it's as if I can hear it sliding back and forth on a shaft. It almost sounds 'hydraulic' in nature - strange sound. And it's not all the time. It's typically present when it's cold, but can also be heard sometimes when it's warm.
I'll seriously want to puke if I have to put more money into my transmission. The clutch and install labor were not cheap!

That's a throwout bearing on it's last legs. Mine did that and eventually seized.

Was it a FRPP TOB or the clutch brand TOB? I'd yank it, replace it with an FRPP unit and do the pilot bearing while you're in there.

It was an OEM replacement TOB, clutch, PP. That's pretty crappy to only last 16K miles. I now wonder what the clutch looks like..? If I have to replace, I'm going with a good brand name replacement and spend a few bucks so we don't go down this road again anytime soon. Centerforce, ACT, McLeod, Zoom, etc. And (trying to remind myself) I need a new clutch cable (already have a Steeda quad and firewall adjuster, but over the past year or so the cable just isn't as smooth as it used to be and it's getting a bit squeaky as well.)

As I shop now for a new clutch kit I have a question - the OEM setup - it's 10 spline, correct?

Yep, it's all 10 spline unless somewhere swapped in a better trans when you weren't looking.

Just had a clutch cable snap on my about a month ago, went with the MM kit and couldn't be happier, my RAM Powergrip feels like a Honda clutch after both a OEM/Steeda/UPR cables I've been through.

We had a Steeda cable in my wife's 01 GT that didn't last 2 years. When I swapped it out, it was nearly severed and completely rusted inside. So much for Steeda quality...I do like their stuff, but that cable was junk.
Hey, do you want a STB? I think it's Steeda, and it's made for the Mach, but I can't use it anymore because I installed a new K&N CAI. It's yours (for free) IF you can use it on your car. Let me know...(see photo attached...and God I wish it were still this clean..!) The STB did work with this MRT CAI, but I ended up changing to the K&N setup after parts of the MRT CAI self destructed.

Nothing much here. My Steeda was all rusted and binding, I do run some Steeda items on my car too, but I've quickly realized that anything not OEM or MM is the only way to go clutch cable wise. Seriously, much clutch cable feels like I'm driving a Honda, but there still is just enough feedback to make me realize that it is a 550 lb/ft rated clutch in there. Anyone can drive my car (until they get in boost and get it sideways ).

Sadly, I already have a MM STB that fits snugly around the Vortech discharge pipe. If your EB is anywhere near that I would still eat a TBone off of it Holy Crap it is clean! The MRT has a Carbon Fiber airbox?! I do get a funny feeling in my pants when I see CF parts for Mustang though however.

It'll definitely be a MM cable for me...just not sure if I'll need a new clutch, and, if so, which one to get. Leaning toward the Centerforce DF - haven't heard one bad thing about them.
And it sounds like I should toss the Centerforce TOB and go with an FRPP TOB, correct?

Unfortunately the EB isn't this clean anymore, but it's not been abused and can still be cleaned up with a couple hours of elbow grease.
