Clutch problem

where to start? well about a week ago my headers burned through my clutch cable. then replaced with a stock ford cable. then the cable seized up a day later. then accidentally striped the pawl and quadrant. i replaced the the two pieces and again bought yet again another cable. made sure the cable is safely away from the header and a couple of days later i get on the freeway and get into fourth gear and thats it. i feel the pawl and quadrant slip, so i drive home in forth. today i check the cable perfectly fine, quadrant and pawl fine. what's the deal is my clutch totally screwed up. any suggestions.

you still have the stock quadrant and pawl? (it sounds like it, but ive never heard of anyone replacing the old stuff with OEM replacements).

yeah stock quadrant and pawl, i just went down to a dismantler and opicked up a healthy set. someone suggested that my clutch was done. all this happened all of a sudden. i've had a bad clutch in my other mustang, but it was obvisious.

it could be hard for someone a keyboard away to diagnose what is going on. there is no doubt that the cable and quadrant issues need to be sorted - once those are good to go, one can go from there.

how much freeplay does your cable have? most folks ditch the stock quadrant and pawl for a metal set up - to keep the stripping issues at bay.

good luck.
