Clutch Problems PLZ HELP

86 stang 5.0 5 speed

I have an after market adj. cable and I pulled the clutch pedal up to many times and now the cam on the pedal is to far forward and and i dont get enuf travel on the cable to release the clutch. How do you reset it to were it is all the way back???
 
A screwdriver can be used to lift the ratchet pawl off the quadrant teeth and reset the stock quadrant.

However, a replacement aftermarket quadrant is the best solution.
 
I have a steel one but i dont know were to look for the racheting part. I dont hardly have any cable going threw the fork with the quad. pulled all the way forward.

If your quadrant is steel, then pulling up on the pedal should not do anything.

You adjust your cable at the clutch fork.
 
The pedal is super stiff and and i cant get the clutch to dis. engadge (spelling?) I have to stand on the pedal to get it to move.

This all happend after i pulled my cable off of the fork to put another nut in front of the fork b/c my damn cable kept loosing its adj. so when i took the cable off from the fork the cable fell of the pedal. So i put it back on the pedal ran a nut all the way up on the cable, slid it threw the fork and put my other nut back on and now my clutch is so stiff it probubly takes about 200lbs of pressure to get it to the floor and its not releasing.

When the cable fell of the pedal is there anything special you have to do? I just put the cable back in the slot and whent on.??

Make sure the cable has a straight throw back through the hole in the firewall. If the quadrant slid to the side (on the pegs it sits upon) and is stuck, the pedal effort will be very stiff. The rail on the quadrant will eventually cause the cable to fray.
 
Some kits have spacers and some do not. You can use washers to locate the quadrant.

Why would you change the fork and TOB?

I pulled the tranny (not the bell housing) and brandon yes you can take the fork out by leaving the bell.

My TOB is FUBAR. I didn't pay any attention when i was installing it but i noticed that the TOB has a weird shape on the middle section it kinda looks like a cam lobe. Does the TOB go on the fork any special way? I just installed it to were the metal fingers are pressing the TOB agenst the Fork, is this right? Does it have to be turned any special way?:hail2::hail2:
 
SLIDE IT on, the thing will spin and put itself where it needs to be...

I can't see a tob causing a stiff pedal.

the stiff pedal is from a junk or misrouted clutch cable. Read the link in my sig.

If that's not it, then you have pressure plate issues.99% of the time, it's a bad or misrouted cable
 
To add to wise ol' Jeremy's thoughts, the TOB retainer could be chewed up, which can cause some resistance in the pedal as well.

A non-adjustable cable could further help. I ran an adjustable Ford cable (as have JRichker and Jeremy as I recall) with an old SVO long-throw quadrant and I actually liked it pretty well. But it was not as smooth as a non-adjustable cable.
 
It was the TOB. It some how got cockeyed were only one side of the TOB was behind the metal fingers and bent that metal lip on the back of the TOB. So the TOB has been trying to slide at an angle on the retainer. I just rebuilt the tranny and it has a brand new steel retainer.

So does the TOB go on a sertain way? I'm ordering a new fork today i just want to make sure i dont have to do this again. Thanks for all the reply's.

EDIT: hissin do you have a link to that cable you have? Does it adjust @ the firewall?
 
it's just the OEM non adjustable clutch cable that your car came with from the factory..buy a firewall adjuster to use with it. As well, if you have a grip or ford racing quadrant, those won't work with the stock cable...mm sells a good kit.

HISSIN, I'm running a 1996 ADJUSTABLE clutch cable with a t5 in my 66 mustang,(the quadrant I bought only works with adj cables, which are longer.. and I actually couldn't be happier. It's all in the routing, which causes heavy pedal effort. I've got mine very well routed, and my pedal effort is so light, I can depress the clutch pedal with my hand.

it's a real fun combo in an otherwise oldschool (modern 5.0 though) platform
