while im putting a newly rebuilt tranny in (again) i really want to step down from the HD clutch kit. it's my belief that it was a cause of third gear's demise. im lookin at the king cobra, but ive heard before that it grips the same as the HD clutch. is this true?

if the KC's gonna kill my tranny as easily as the HD, i'll just go down to a soft OEM style and be done with it

Clutches dont kill trannies, drivers kill trannies. :D

A stock clutch kit or cobra kit might be able to slip a little more for you.

I might call D&D in Wixom, and get their input.

Good luck.

well if it was launching and busting the tranny i could see that maybe but......by the time you get into third the only thing i'd think would be killing third would be power shifting it or the way your shifting it....or if your making alot more power than stock.......not the clutch.......i could be wrong though......and the kc clutch is i think the same as the hd grip wise just supposedly lighter pedal pressure.......

i totally agree with you, i did powershift into third a few times, and then a month and a half or so later, im just cruising in third and push the gas down a little more and it snaps

when i inspected my clutch last summer the clutch disc was a little questionable... lots of life left but the spline hub was able to turn a little bit independently of the actual disc, only a little bit each way, but i figure kill two birds with one stone. KC sounds good, i was getting tired of the stiff pedal, and with the MGW going in, i really won't have to be that hard on the tranny :nice:

thanks

Third is lacking in bearing support, kinda making it the weakest gear, considering the amount of torque running through it.

a KC is the same clutch as the HD only difference is the PP with the KC has some different angles or something on the forks and makes the pedal easier but still puts out the same pressure as the HD
