Hi everyone,
New to the forum. I have a 1997 Cobra I purchased new.
Wanted to know at what mileage did you have to replace your clutch? I drive normal, no racing, car has 69k miles. Getting hard shifting from 1st to 2nd and grinding in upper RPM range(above 4k).
I was thinking the cable adjuster may be shot or cable stretched. It feels like I'm not getting a complete release when I press the clutch in. I pull up on the automatic adjusted before driving every time I take the car out. I'm not getting any slippage. I'm used to older cars with mechanical link, not cable and plastic parts.

You can try a new quadrant and firewall adjuster (UPR or Steeda are good pieces) and see if that helps. The hard shifting from 1st to 2nd and grinding in upper RPM range sounds more like bearings or synchronizers in the tranny. Hope that isn't the case.

I have considered syncro's but I have never really driven the car hard. Very little speed shifting. It actually sits a lot. Maybe I need to R2 the old driver. I'm going to R2 the clutch assembly as it just doesn't feel right. If that don't work then I'll look at the tranny.

Try a new triple hook quadrant and firewall adjuster. That will give you plenty of adjustability to compensate for any stretch in the cable.
