I am going to try to explain this the best I can. I am posting this for a friend so this is not my mustang. He owns a 2000 v6 mustang 5 speed. About a week ago I was notified that he started experiencing a mild screeching sound coming from the transmission, this became progressively worse. It makes the sound at all times (warm cold, idle rev, neutral gear). At the same time his clutch now is a brick wall. Almost impossible to push in. I'm not talking little legs getting sore, this is like two feet on the clutch to simply push it in enough to shift gears! I own a cobra so he comes to me for advise but I'm stumped. I have always felt the flywheel was in bad condition due to shuttering while starting from first and downshifting. Any ideas?

You should have your friend log in to answer questions about this problem. It would help to have his descriptions as well, since he's most familiar with the symptoms. Anyway...

It sounds to me like it could be one of the following (in no particular order):

Clutch cable quadrant broken or misaligned (particularly if it's stock)
Clutch Throw Out bearing
Throw Out Bearing Retainer
Clutch Fork

I don't even know... Were clutches in 2000 all hydraulic?
