One of my co worker 99 F150 blew a spark plug out of the head. I believe it's the third cylinder on the passenger side(#7 I think). His son uses the truck and he's in college. Ford wanted 3 grand to replace the head. He had the truck towed 2 hours back home to get it fixed. He took it to his personal mechanic and the guy used some type of head tread repair tool( I'm sure you guys know what I'm describing). Total cost between towing and repairs was about 950 bones. Ford also told him that plug was the most common plug to blow out. Recheck those plugs! Pearl02.

This is a known weakness with the early 5.4 and V10 heads. I guess we got lucky, "our" '00 V10 never had that problem. Then again, mi padre got laid off before that thing had 100k on it (company truck).

That happened to me once on my Grand Prix. I used a heli-coil to fix the threads, then used loctite on that and the spark plug! I never had any problems from then on, but I got rid of the car a few months later....

thats normal. o and expect missfires now because of the half ass fix your "mechanic" did. replacing the head is the only real fix for it. the heli coil does not allow for proper heat transfer from the spark plug through the head. a friend of mine stripped out the spark plug on his gf's miata. he literally called every shop in the town and every one refused to do it. when i talked to the MATCO and Snap-On tool truck drivers about it they also said they would refuse to sell me a tool to do that.

It's not my car or my mechanic. It was a co workers F150. He didn't say it had been heli-coiled but it very well could have. Pearl02
