cobra brake conv q's

:bang: does anyone know if when upgrading your brakes to the cobra bigger rear rotors if you also need to change the caliper? im getting ready to do the front brakes and figured to do the same to the rear but there has not been too much info on that. any help greatly appreciated. :bang:

I know the Cobra uses different pads on the rear so I'll go out on a limb and assume that the GT rear caliper will not work on a Cobra rear rotor. Say the word and I'll run outside and take a photo of my 96 Cobra's rear brake:)

The GT caliper will not work with the larger cobra rotor. Baer makes a oversize rear brake kit for the GTs that uses a larger rotor and comes with a bracket to re-use the caliper.

Yep, $229 at RPM Outlet - Baer Eradispeed--->http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv8baer.htm They have the matching front as well with Baer calipers for $470 - both are listed on the above link and pictured below.

Actually, the Cobra rear calipers are the same as all the other cars, they're 38mm Vargas. The only difference in the Cobra brakes is that they use an 11.65" vented rotor instead of the other cars' 10" solid rotor. The vented rotor is thicker, because they need the vent space in the middle of the rotor, so the Cobra simply uses thinner pads in the caliper. That's why you have different part numbers. To put Cobra rotors on your GT or V6, you would need to replace the bracket, and of course the rotor and new (thinner) pads. You could reuse your calipers.

The GT calipers will work, you will just have to get the cobra rear bracket and of course the rotor. You can get these at discbrakesrus.com

Also, when changing your fronts to Cobra 13 ", Don't forget to get the 17" Cobra spare wheel like I did. =( resulting in getting towed if you get a front flat.

you could always just put the rear wheel on the front. it would take a little longer. but you wouldn't have to buy a new spare.

do you really gain anything from upgrading the rears unless you are doing some serious racing??

i am definatly doing the Cobra upgrade after an incident i had on the highway today. a toilet came flying off a truck while doing 80 mph. i was able to stop, but it was a cloe one and better brakes would just be nicer. to have.
