Cobra brake kit

Ok, i'm looking at cobra brake kits on 50resto.com, and I'm wondering about the differences between the kit for 94-95 mustangs and that 96-04 mustangs. I've read before that the 96-04 kit will work on our cars, but I just want to make sure. The 94-95 kit is $60 more expensive and the calipers are black.....I'd like to get the red ones. Thanks a bunch.

do yourself a favor and skip the cobra kit and go straight for the '00 R kit----1000000000000000000 times better.

www.buyfordracing.com has the best price ive seen on complete kits. if you dont care about color or saying "cobra" go with the mach-1 kit

no real difference in the 94/95 - 96-98 kits

however 99+ cobra calipers used slightly larger pistons with the same 13" rotor

Lol, I've looked at that kit, and I don't quite have the funds to cover those. Plust I doubt they'll fit behind my wheels. I just want to get rid of these deathtrap current brakes. Maybe someday when money allows, but as for now, I'll just go with the cobras.

Ok, I'll check out the ford racing site. looking at it now and it looks like a sweet deal.

Urban, are the mach 1 brakes stronger than the cobras? or are they the same? Also, does that kit come with all the hardware I need? I just see the rotors, calipers,and lines.

the machs are the same caliper---just minus the lettering.

as for the hardware, just make sure they come with the caliper banjo bolt. or better yet just buy a set of 03-up banjo bolts to eliminate any possible down time.

they come with banjo bolts

they come with everything except the fluid, but thats cheap/easy to find.

it dosent come with the bolts to mount the caliper to the spindle but you should be able to re-use the stock ones. thats what i did and pretty sure what everyone else does too

Alright

I know the '94-'95 specific kit comes with a Cobra master cylinder, but it seems to me that most '94-'95 guys don't bother with it and just go with the regular kit instead. Has anyone had any issues with using the Cobra brakes with our stock MC?

bimmertech - That is a decent price for that kit. Do you know if the '00-R brakes require running an 18" wheel?

Could I just get cobra rotors, brake hoses, and calibers from my local parts store instead of using a kit like this? Would probably be a good bit cheaper.

there are a few (around 3) 17in wheels that will fit the 00-R brakes. I believe the 95R, possibly the 98, and the 03s work

If funds work out how I expect, I'll be getting these come spring time (I already have the rotors)

hhmm I think it would be a good bit more expensive. The rotors alone will be quite pricey at a parts store, let alone the calipers. Stock GT rotors are expensive enough for me to justify an upgrade. And braided lines are a good deal if they're included in a kit, they 'aint cheap either by themselves.

I do not think you will find a cheaper price than buyfordracing offers

If you can find the rotors, calipers, and lines there is no reason you wouldn't be able to do this without getting the kit, but I think when I searched that option buying online was the best option.

Everyone (including myself) that I've heard of using the stock MC with the upgraded brakes has no problem. I've read of others who have driven both with the Cobra MC and the stock one and the concensus seems to be they like the pedal feel with the stock MC better, and stainless steel lines are a nice bonus.

the '00 R kit uses a cobra 13x1.1" rotor---so replacement parts are plentiful

i am running 17x9" wheels in that pic. the 98 cobra wheel is the only 8" wide wheel that does clear, all others are 9" wide.

i upgraded after running cobra brakes since i had the car---i even upgraded the stockers to 03 cobra calipers, better pads, yadda yadda yadda. i can say that since putting the brembos on the diff is night and day. i have never gotten them to fade---only problem is that my wheel looks black after about 200 miles from all the brake dust.

btw, if you already have cobra brakes you can buy the brembo calipers seperately and reuse your hoses/calipers for a great "budget" upgrade---about $200 cheaper.

yup

you could try pricing things out at a local parts store first.

but: 1) the calipers are probably going to be re-mans and not new. 2) pads most likely wont be as good as the ones that come with the OEM kit. 3) the kit comes with brembo rotors, parts store is probably not same quality. 4) while you dont NEED new lines the kit comes with stainless ones that give you a much better pedal feel.

IMO unless you get a pretty good discount/price on the parts store stuff buy online. Its all new OEM stuff

I think you just convinced me to get the 00-R brakes instead. That is the best price I've seen on them anywhere. But it doesn't look like it comes with lines or pads. I guess it'd be right around $1,000 when all said and done, but I want to build the best possible foundation for my car for the power that awaits it next year, and I hate buying parts twice. This might be the way to go.

the kit i bought came with goodridge braided hoses and the calipers were filled with pads.

fwiw the hoses they gave me did not fit on my car. i ended up reusing my cobra hoses with no problems.

you will not be disappointed--i garauntee it.

how come they didnt fit? did you try switching sides? drivers and passenger side threads where the soft line connects to the hardline are different. im sure you know this already but figured it may be worth asking.

i had no idea they were diff sizes.

i only tried the one side and said **** it. i like the design of my hoses better anyways and they were only a few months old.

the hoses in the kit had a seperate fitting for the banjo bolt rather than a 1 piece design.

288$ for 1995 cobra loaded calipers, rotors, and brake hoses. This isn't including a 100$ core which you will have to pay first. Then just bring back the stock calipers on the box's. Trust me when I say they will not check or care.
