Cobra brake swap--use stock lines?

here's the deal:

i got the calipers and rotors from an 03 cobra and ordered the coarse threaded banjo bolts from stang suspension. i also ordered the stainless steel braided lines to throw in there, but they didn't fit into the hard brake line.


what i wound up doing was using my stock brake line to go from the cobra caliper to the hard brake line. i did have to grind about an 1/8th of an inch off so it would clear teh caliper, but everything bolted up perfectly fine.

now it got too late, so we didn't get to bleed and test them out, so i don't know how well it worked until tomorrow.

my question is: is using the stock brake line (from the caliper to the hard brake line) ok when doing this cobra brake swap? from what i understood, the stainless lines are usually aimed towards road racing--which i don't do.

what i meant about *grinding* the stock lines to fit the cobra calipers was:
if you look at the stock rubber brake lines, there is a "block" (an actual little rectangular prism) where the line attaches to the stock caliper. i had to grind this "block" down on one side to clear the new cobra caliper.

everything bolted up fine, though we didn't get a chance to bleed them and try them out.

what i'm wondering is if it is ok to safely use the stock rubber lines (you have to grind them to clear the cobra caliper) with the cobra calipers... and if the braided steel lines are optional.



(i do plan on getting some adapters for the braided steel lines i have. the threading from the stock hard lines isn't the correct size needed to connect to the new braided steel lines, hence why i had to modify and use the stock lines until i can find the correct size adapter)

I've been checking out parts and matching what lines go for what years, and it looks like you'll have no problems running the line.

The 03/04 cobra aftermarket SS lines also fit the 94-98 GT lines, so grinding that block probably isn't a big deal.

strange... they didn't fit together for me.. the ss line was too big for the stock hard line.

The SS lines are entirely optional. You are in no way required to use them as the rubber brake lines will work just fine.

you are absolutely correct, Jimmy.. this was exactly the problem--we had them mixed up and found out by accident this morning.

i guess this thread wasn't totally useless, hehe.
