Ok so i got my 96 gt dynod and im pushing 169 rwhp and 210 trq complettly stock how i bought it no tune up . im going to pull the engine and rebuild it thanks to some advice i got Here before. my new question is i read in an old MMFS mag i could throw a forged cobra crank in My questions is what are the benefits of this.i figured if i am building the top build the bottom too right . heres my list of mods to the car at the same time i rebuild . this is my daily driver for 5 months out of the year i am not looking for a weekend warrior just want to tear it up a little and not be pushing the lowest hp in my auto club Mind you its a firebird based club and im the only one with a Stang so pleas help . what would the Gustament be on this engine set up

If the cast crank is in good shape you'd see no benefits to going forged with that combination. In addition, if you did go to the Cobra crank, you'd have to source a new 8-bolt flywheel/flexplate too.

For the timing components -- arms, guides, chains, sprockets etc, I'd just stay OEM.

A 75mm TB is more than enough for that combo.

I wouldn't have bothered with the shorty headers though you might as well use them since you have them.

I wouldn't bother with the pulleys. They don't give much power for the cost. If you must have them, go Steeda.

If you're not experiencing any misfires, I wouldn't bother with the coils and I'd replace the wires only if they're needed it (i.e. age cracks, corona discharge, misfiring when wet etc...)

trinity's got some great info...doing a lot of research for the timing set up on my car, i was able to disover that the stock timing components are more than capable...no need to upgrade

with the pi intake, heads, and cams alone you are going to see a fairly decent result in power.

the stock crank in 99-04 mustangs can handle a pretty good amount of power, not sure about the 96-98's but they should be atleast some what similar..no need to cobrasize your crank!

IIRC the cobra cranks weigh more as well, so you'll lose a little TQ d/t the increased rotating mass.

Great info posted. You'd have no reason to switch it out. Only reason would be to see around or above 600 horses and 6500 rpms.

If the OP thinks that supercharging or serious nitrous is a possible future upgrade he might think about going forged on all reciprocating components -- crank, rods and pistons -- while he's got it apart but if it's going to be a n/a daily with a factory rev-limit, cast would be fine.
