cobra gauge cluster install problem with volt gauge

HI everyone, any input would be appreciated. I bought an instrument cluster out of a totaled 98 cobra for my 94 gt. now i know the wiring is different and i did not want to move the pins around so this is what i did to get around that. I removed the gauges and installed them into my 94 cluster. The only problem i ran into was the volt gauge would peg to the right as soon as the key was turned on. I installed my old volt and oil gauge and all is good. Any answers as to why this happened? Can i remove the volt gauge on the 94 and install on the white face gauge on the cobra? If so how do you remove the needles without damaging them? Thanks for any help, mike
