cobra intake install, now it wont start

si I installed a cobra intake on my 92 Bimini Blue lx hatch today, everything went great untill I tried to start it. I reinstalled everything, missed nothing, the only thing I changed about my setup is I did not reinstall the EGR valve, I installed a block off plate. I did not install an egr eliminator as I haven't recieved it yet. I primed the fuel rail, 40 psi on the gauge, then tried to start it, on the third attempt it backfired through the tail pipes, the motor has not tried to lite up yet though, I checked time and it is at 13 degrees, I can not find any missed connectors or vaccum lines, is it the lack of the egr eliminator keeping the engine from running?

Did you remove the distributor when you did the intake or was that left alone?

Whewn you installed the distributor, did you mark where the rotor and base were originally set at?
