I almost bought an 04 cobra tonight. Well needless to say its not sitting outside right now beside our great efforts. Anywho 2 questions

What is the best and worst fuel consumption you have seen?

Is 35,3k sound like a decent deal to take one off the lot? If its not let me know where to get a better deal.

Thanks, "my heads spinning"
Jason

i guess that depends on where you live...cars are generally more expensive in CA and NY. 35k would probably be a pretty good deal here in LA...

really? from the prices and deals they've had up here for the last year, i would say the opposite..maybe its because of the economy..

yeah...maybe it's just LA, but when I was car shopping early this year, I went to Ford, Chevy, BMW, and a few others...all of them seemed to be charging a bit more than what forum members out of state were saying they were paying for the same car. And no, it's not my negotiation skills (at least I hope not ), and I've heard this from several other people as well.

Edit: just to make it clear, i'm not saying the MSRP and/or invoice is higher in CA, I'm just saying dealers don't seem to discount as much here...

First of all, why buy an 04 when you can get a semi used 03 or new 03 for cheaper? I have seen 03 Cobras asking 28-30k with low miles. With dealers trying to get rid of the 03s now, you should be able to get one cheap. Unless of course you are getting a Mystic Chrome then you are the man.

I think you should be able to get it for MSRP if not cheaper, DO NOT LET THEM CHARGE YOU THE DEALER MARK UP. If they try to say you can not get out of it, tell them you are not buying it and walk out immediately. Good luck bro. I envy you.

It is true that Cobra's seem to cost more here in California as I had gone to every SVT Dealer within 50 miles of my house and none of them would come off of the MSRP and in fact most of them still had at least a $3,000 markup on them and this was in Sept. I ended up finding a dealer in Washington State through Stangnet that offered me a 03 Cobra Coupe for invoice so what I did was call my local SVT Dealer (I went through the internet dept) and explained to them that a dealer in Washington State had offered to sell me a 03 Cobra Coupe for invoice and since it would cost me about $1,000 to fly up there and buy it and have it shipped back to California I asked them if they would sell me their 03 Sonic Blue Coupe that I had seen on the lot for $1,000 over invoice. Anyway long story short the Internet Sales Manager called me back the next day and said they were willing to sell it to me for the $1,000 over invoice so I bought it from my local dealer. With the $2,500 rebate my out the door price was about 34k which included the chrome wheels,Tax,Lic and gas guzzler tax. I have heard of people getting an 03 for under $30,000 but you will not see that here in California IMHO.

yup...i was looking at getting a corvette before I got a great deal on my GT, but anyways....CA dealers were going maybe 1-2k off MSRP for a C5. I contacted a few out of state dealers who were easily willing to go 5-7k off MSRP (which translates to invoice or slightly below).

I also briefly looked into getting an '03 cobra, and all dealers here wanted to sell it at sticker.

I got pretty lucky on my GT...I paid like $200 over invoice, plus got that fat $3500 cash rebate. Great deal

I'd also go for an '03 cobra if I were you...prices on the '04 are higher, and ford has a $1500 rebate or special financing on the '03's right now...

Thanks for all the replies guys.

This dealer doesn't have any 03s left. I know I can get an 03 for much less, but they just came out with the screamin yellow and imo its much better than the zinc (no offense to anyone that has the zinc). I am in Birmingham right now and all of the dealers that I go to back home in PA are asking 5k over MSRP and will not budge. Maybe I am dreaming to big hehe.

Anyone know about the fuel mileage?

Thanks
Jason

That's weird...there's still quite a few '03's around here. I'd check in neighboring states too if I were you...saving a few grand is always worth the drive.

You might want to also check out svtperformance.com...i'm sure those guys can help you out some more.

In chicago i've seen couples as cheap as 27-28,000 and with 4-7k on it. I'm guessing because the winters here really suck. But soon as its over they go back to regular prices. Depends on where you live. I wonder how much they run for in Alaska?
