i was wondering if the cobra pistons and rods will work in a gt?i have a 2000 and the pistons and rods are out of a 99 cobra.is there any work or fabrication to make these work in a gt?just wondering because im supercharged and im getting 433hp and 412tq at the rear wheels and i was told the stock internals dont hold up well over 400hp.

ya they will work considering that the rods are the same as what you already have. and the pistons i believe are the same or very similar. there will not be any performance advantage because they are not forged. all you would be doing is putting the exact same parts back in.

I agree with several things said above. First, that the Cobra pistons and rods are the same as GT spec until you get to the 2003/4 Cobra. Second, that at 12 psi and 430ish rwhp your shortblock is on borrowed time.

i was 100% sure about the rods, but like only 95% sure about the pistons. i would normally leaf thorugh my Sean Hyland book, but i let my buddy who just got a kenne bell put on his 04 mystichrome borrow it, hopefully the pages arent stuck together when i get it back.

Ok..misinformation all over the place.
'96-'99 Cobras all use a different rod than the 2V engines.
To the untrained eye-they look alike, but there are minute differences that make them able to withstand the higher revs of the Cobra better.
The pistons in the Cobra are a 2.8cc dish, and are the same material as the 2V engine,so they're no better than the 2V piston for strength.
The 2V engines use a dished pison-the '96-'98 use approx an 11cc dish,and the '99-up use approx a 17cc dish.
In '01 Ford decided that the rods weren't as big of an issue as they thought,so they started using the same rods in all modular 4.6L's except the '03 '04 Cobras(read:cheaper to use the 2V rod),and they are more prone to failed bearings, and broken rods due to this.

i appreciate all the replies..sounds like the cobra pistons and rods are no better than what i have in it now.ill look into aftermarket parts for some help.also what makes the 03-04 cobra rods and pistons different?

one thing that everyone forgot to mention. They are flat top pistons(either -5cc or 2.8cc like langton said). They would make your compression upwards 11:1 with the stock heads off a SOHC.

the rods on the 03+ Cobra are Manley Forged H beam rods, rated for 700+ hp, the pistons are similar to the 99+ Lightning in that they are forged aluminum 8.5:1 compresson
