Cobra R hood...Opened the cowl up...

Opening up the cowl has been an my list so I tackled it today...
I thought the cowl would be open...but when i took it out of the box I was like W.T.F...no opening..
Motor pumps alot of heat out so I thought this would help things cool down some...
All in all a gravy job to do..I had read some are open...mines a H.O. Fibertrend hood...

Here's the hood new....you can see the cowl is closed..


Weapons of choice...cut-off wheel and carbide rotary file...eats the stuff like candy..

Painting the inside as it was raw fiberglass..


Done...


Now the mother will let some heat out...plenty of strenght left in it as I left most of the ribbing in place for that reason...the pc I cut was a thin filler panel so to say...


Installed...

yeah that looks really good. Can you get a shot when the hood is back on the car from the drivers seat. Im really interested to see what that looks like form there.

Actually I drive it every day its decent out.....I do spent alot of time dubbing with stuff...Last week I cut 3/8 coil outta the rear springs cause it was raining a few days...always find some chit to work on....My next dub job is moving the seats back a few inches.... She needs a tad more legroom...

Thanks for the props...like above, it was one of those dub things I wanted to do since I got the hood...figured someone may wanna have at it themselves so I posted it up...Gotta always be tweaking something...
Driving it I seen some flutter on the edge of the opening...so its gotta be stiffened some...prolly fab some 1/8" Alum uprights somewhere and JB weld em in place...

I didn't get a pic from the seat yet...was getting dark.....Mines a 1.5 rise...a 3" would be another story...

Now just fill it all with bondo hair and smooth it out to give it that molded inlet look. Just kidding, looks awsome! Does it seem to work?

By the way, where can you find those Ford Racing fender pad things for working on the car?

I'm not hardcore enough to do that glass stuff, but your right, it would look good molded...I figure its gotta keep things cooler as its extracting the heat all the time so its a plus to me....since the H/C/I swap its got way hotter under the hood...noticed that right off....
My temp gage still runs at 198 or so....no change there....but I wasn't thinking it would...

I got my covers right outta FRPP...got a bud who's FRPP dealer...

Actually, since the cowl area is a High Pressure area, it's likely that it will let air IN through that opening. That was the idea of a Cowl Induction hood, it gave a Ram Air effect. It's also why alot of race cars get thier engine air from that area. no openings on the front of the car to keep downforce, so they go to the cowl.

Still, It looks great, and if/when I get one, I will want it open like yours, too!

Looks good, but Im having troubles trying to visualize where those cuts were made at the start. One reason besides looks Im gonna put that hood on is to help free up some space under the hood and keep things cool. I may have to do that if I ever get that hood.

Just like you may have to post some real time slips if you actually ever go to the track
