Hey all,

I purchased a the above mentioned radar detector off of a buddy yesterday and want to make it a bit more more conspicuous, i.e. rid myself of the wire hanging down from the windshield. In the mach there is a cig. lighter in the little console box, so I want to keep the cig. lighter power attachment and run the wire up to the windshield through the dash. But the trouble is that I do not believe that the wire that came with the radar detector will be quite long enough. I was curious then, if anyone knows what gauge wire is used so I can splice into it and make it a bit longer. Any knowledge in this matter would be much appreciated! Thanks!

run a power wire from the fuse box up the trim to the pillar, then underneath the headliner to the center of the sunvisor, mount the radar detector there. cut the cigarette adapter off the power wire of the radar detector then use a butt connector to connect the power wire to the radar detector wire, crimp it, and wrap it with electrical tape. make sure to use a spade terminal for the end going to the fuse box and connect it to ACC that way it comes on when the car comes on and goes off when the car goes off, tuck the wire under the trim so it's out of sight. or you can use more wire and move it to the center of the windshield directly above or below the rearview mirror mount.

solder and heat shrink your connections. Dont use crimp connectors.

I think you mean inconspicuous lol... My friend has his V1 hardwired, runs the wires up by the rear view then in the headliner back around to the pillar, and down under the cash to the fuse box - also he has a remote display he mounted into his gauge bezel so he can mute it, change settings, etc without looking or reaching into the middle of the windshield And decent gauge power hookup wire should be fine, it's just 12v DC and really low amp draw.

if you want a key on only power source, do like me and tap into the trac off led power line, pink wire in the bundle. that way it has to be in run to get power

What I did was goto bestbuy and buy a fuseable wire for radar detects.I did just like they are saying by running the wire through the headliner down to the fuse box. Then wired the positive to a key on fuse and grounded to the metal of the car.Turn on key...radar comes on....key off....radar off.Plus with the fuse in the wire if it overloads or whatever for any reason it blows the fuse not the radar detector, blew a $200 radar a few years back by not using a fused power wire.I like the acc plug in the console for charging my phone....but in my GT I got creative and installed another acc plug for a power inverter for a laptop on trips.Ok I already said too much....

did you not know there is another acc plug in storage compartment of your center console where your arm rests? flip up the lid look inside and towards the front of the little compartment you'll see a round plug hole for a cigarette lighter/acc plug.

i use the compartment one for my phone, and let my phone sit in the cup holder (i also have a pioneer bluetooth that is compatible with my stereo so I have hands free talk capability) and i connect the phone to my charger, and let the wire run from the center console lid.

i use the shifter bezel acc plug in for my radar detector.

yes i did, thats what I was talking about,I smoke some so I kinda use the lighter for that, the one in the console is for my phone,I then added another right next to that one for a power inverter. So thats 3 plugs alltogether. And with the radar hardwired with the ignition on,I dont have to worry about turning it off and on,just comes on like everything else does when I turn the key.
