Has anyone had any luck with the pats code 1:6?
I'm not sure where the best place to start looking for bad conection between the ECM and dash would be. It does it so intermitantly that its hard to trouble shoot.

The car is a 2001 GT with a vortec V2, offroad h-pipe, and flowmaster exhaust. Other that that it's completly stock.

My brother-in-law bought the car about a month ago. It had some other issues that we had to sort out first, but this is the last of the problems the car has, and it's been the biggest pain.
He already had it up at Ford cause we thought that there was a problem between the key and the transponder, but after two days they said come get the car cause they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Their best guess was that there was something wrong with the dash, but could not conferm it.

Any insight will be GREATLY appreciated!

Please provide additional details on exactly what are the symptoms.

Read the following on how to access the cluster diagnostic mode. Post the results.

Check out the following on bad solder traces in the 99-04 cluster.

Did the dealer tell you what the codes were?

I don't want to sound like a jerk but consider that the dealer has access to the Ford specific WDS diagnostic tools. If they can't figure it out, well at the very least, this is going to be an uphill battle.

Have you considered having PATS disabled with a custom hand held tune?

Thanks for the links.

The dealer didn't say anything about the code that the pats gave. We found that after it was back in the garage at home.
When it shut's down you can't get anything out of the obd2 port. If I remember right it says something like "bad link" or something to that nature.
From what I've read the pats system shouldn't be able to shut the car down after it has already been started for safty reasons.
I know that you can have the pats disabled with a tune, but to be honest I'm not sure pats is the problem. I'm leaning towards something with the power system to the pcm or the dash, and when one of them loses power it trips the pats. In other words the pats code its just a secondary problem after the power is lost. I'm just assuming at this point though.
The other day when I was out driving it, trying to get it to shut off, I did notice that the needles on the spedometer and the tach would both bottom out and return to the appropriate position. I'm not sure whats causing that??????????? I'm beging to belive that there is something wrong with the dash after that and what the dealer said about they belive it's the dash but weren't sure.

Oh and another thing about the dealer and their compitance.......after getting it back home, and doing some looking around we found that the MAF housing was broke. It's in the fender well because of the vortec piping, and the car has 19" wheels, which caused and interferance when at full lock.

If the dealer was realy trying to find a problem....they should have found that you would think.

the cluster sweep means that the cluster has lost power. Check the battery and battery cables.

It's funny you say that, because I just talked to my brother-in-law and he said that the battery had a couple of bad cells in it. I'm going to pick up a new one tomarrow when I go over there to tinker with it some more.
I was also planning on checking all the grounds, because it was a northern Illinois car that apparently got drove in a couple of winters.
