I'm new to this board and to these cars. My daughter bought a 94 gt. The person she bought it from said it needed a fuel pump, which I installed. The car will run good and then will not start. After it sits for awhile it starts. I got this code, Code 543-fuel pump secondary circuit failure - battery to pcm. It doesn't miss or surge going down the road but when she shuts it off, sometimes it will not start. Am I correct thinking that the PCM is going bad? Thanks for any information.

Anytime you work on the fuel system you will get this code. Sometimes happens when changing the fuel pressure regulator or injectors. The EEC will detect power but a low fuel level so it will automatically shoot out a high circuit code or failure code. Sounds like the previous owner would run the tank bone dry often.

This code comes up a lot. Actually, I would do a search on this forum for "code 543". Someone did a write-up on it, using diagnostics CD that you can buy. It tells you step by step what to check and how to check it. It will narrow down your problem.

Obviously, the computer is detecting something is wrong. And since something is wrong, likely you are on the right track.

Do a search, and post back if you have any questions.
