Please Help Codes 311, 314 THERMACTOR

I would just like to say first of all that before I started this thread I did a search in 94-95 specific. There was some information there that has helped but now I more or less need some opinions.

My car is running rough. She won't rev higher than 3000 rpm without a fight whether I am accelerating or just reving the engine.

The code 311 and 314 indicate that it is a problem with the thermactor air system.

It seems that by eliminating this system I will clear everything up. But I might be wrong??

I would like to know whether it is worth it to simply repair the system, or remove it??

It seems like alot of you have removed the systems yet still have cats?? Doesn't this create problems??

Not sure, I don't have the experience most of you have..

Please help with any information you might have.

THANKS :nice:

The codes refer to the AIR system. This is the smog pump and accessories related to it. I don't know enough about the entire system and the valves to comment on fixing it.

If you just remove it, the codes will still keep coming. You need to "bypass" it as well. Do a search for "smog removal" or something like that. It should get you in the right direction.

I wouldn't repair it. I would bypass it for now, and when emmisions time comes, just reconnect it.

The AIR system function is to force air through the exhaust pipes, which creates heat, which heats up the cats more quickly. They only work when hot.

If you don't have any cats, the system doesn't know. It has no way of knowing (unless you have a 96+ GT, then it's a different story).
