I have AJE Coilover with UPR cc plates, and stock struts, the spring rate is 14"-175lb. The problem I'm having is a constant tapping/ banging sound from the cc/strut tower area no matter what the road surface is. It made the same sound with the stock cc plates as well. From the looks of it, it seems as if the top plate for the coilover spring is hitting the OD of the strut shaft.

Any ideas or suggestion on where the sound may be coming from?

Thanks in advance for your help!

check the clearence between the strut and the strut tower under load. My guess is that its hitting there and you need to add a spacer between the two.

It's not hitting the cc plate or strut tower, the ID is hitting the OD of the strut shaft. Basically the top spring perch is not staying centralized around the strut shaft.

I have the UPR CC Plates so its not an issue with clearance.

I circled the parts that are causing the issue in the attached pic.

The problem is the pocket in the spring perch (larger piece) has a smaller ID than the OD of the top cone (smaller piece) so there is no way to keep the spring perch concentric to the strut rod.

come on guys, i'm sure i'm not the only person experiencing this issue.

I have the same problem, i have the griggs kit, which is the same as yours, but the parts you circled are not my problem.

The cone and perch should not move, I dont think that is your problem.

Ive been struggling with a noise on my left front for months. I finally got the passenger side quiet, but im getting the same answers from everyone (check the strut bolt, spacers, washers.. bla bla. Its not that, and at a point my spring was actually hitting the inside of the strut tower opening. BINGO SOLVED! RIGHT?! nope. Still making noise. I searched elsewhere and found this answer was common:

Check the bushings on the control arm, and secure balljoints and swaybar links. Did that. Maybe a bushing is bad? Im going to change the balljoint and bushing on the left side. But if youre getting it on both sides, id check that the struts are not blown. I had 2 blown struts in the front and they were tapping like metal, sounded like the strut was loose, when it wasnt. Changed them out for konis, sound went away, but the left side was still giving me ****.
Ill let you know what happens with mine, but its the biggest PITA. If I were you, id double check that EVERYTHING is tight. I doubt its the spring perch. My kit is identical to yours and it is tight. I think you can rule that out. keep me posted.

well thank you for your response. I'm so frusturated!!! we've checked just about everything and are pretty clueless. We haven't checked the balljoints so that's next. The struts on my car only have 20,000 miles and are fine.

Will keep you posted. Thanks again for your response.
