Am I the only one here that is COMPLETELY fed up with Comsuck? Half the time you cant connect, and the other half it is slower than dial up. When it seldom IS high speed, it isnt anywhere near where it used to be (you know, before it was made 2X faster!).

This is my first real problem w/ Comcast.

You're down in Oregon, if you're in Verizon territory, get FiOS when it's setup and ready to go. I can't say too much more about content except you will never even think about switching to another company because it is SO fast and cheap. We're starting to roll it out now in some parts, watch for fliers and advertising. :nice:

today was bad... they were updating servers... otherwise no issues...

if you are on a shared network with the rest of the family make sure they are not downloading/uploading... same goes for you.
also if you have wireless make sure no neighbor is using your i-net

See, why cant they just tell you that? When I ask a question and get a rubber stamp "your out of system memory...." or "make sure that you..." it pi$$es me off. I know computers...build quite a few...and it's not a hardware issue. If they would just bite the bullet and say look, its gonna be a while, we know about it..I would have much more respect for them. Cant wait for that Verizon deal to come around :nice:

I'll give you a little preview -- expect internet packages like a MID-level package of 15mbit/2mbit for $49.99/month, including wireled router/modem unit with wireless being optional. I can't say too much more until you start getting advertising in your area -- but it's been HOT! everyplace we've rolled it out so far.

Unfortunately, no definite plans for WA yet, it will depend on how well everything goes with rate increases and how well we can work with the cities around here.

When I do that it will be time to get rid of the cable as well. Its just too expensive for what you get. I pay close to $100 a month for the internet and "a step above basic" cable. For the saem price I could have a dish and better internet. Sign me up! (but I already have the 802.11g stuff...is this what they are packaging or is it something proprietary?)

Pfffffffft. I wish I had to live with Comsuck.

I use DirectWay. Two way satellite connection. Better than dial-up. The download throughput is pretty good (I’ve seen 1mb). The uploads are limited 50k/sec. The two round trips to the satellite make for some nice latency.

It would be nice to live in one of the areas getting fiber to the home. Guess I need to move out of the boonies.

If you opt for the wireless stuff it will be 802.11g/b (don't remember which or both), or you can use the wired setup and just connect it up with your pre-existing wireless router or whatever you use. The 'modem' is propriatary right now, but has standard ports so you can plug anything into it and build off of it.

As for the video -- again, can't say too much, but this is all related. Running fiber directly into the home (which is why you can get FiOS) will allow Verizon to offer video service. We are getting a really nice lineup of channels and offerings where what you'll see is comporable to satellite and digital cable setups, but with much better channels, software, speed, more HD stuff, more features. A lot of great stuff. Naturally, I believe it will be a good costs savings over the competitors similar products. That's a little farther in the future and I can't say more about that.

Your phone will also come through the same fiber line as well. I don't have as much info on those packages, but they will be again very competitive and designed to fend off other companies like Vonage, etc. by offering more services and better rates.

I work with the software that is involved in bringing it all together for this whole thing. I see preview copies of a lot of different services, so I know what's coming well before it hits the market. It's really getting exciting now for me! Everyone's going to love this stuff when it gets out there! :nice:

Holy cow...isnt that Satellite stuff expensive? It would be cheaper to move!

$69.99 per month. This is on top of my DirecTV. I'd really like to have DSL/Cable/FiOS. I will be moving in the next year. Not sure living in a high density area is worth it for a high speed connection.

Ironic how I surf on a slow ass satellite connection and I work for a company that has several terabytes worth of bandwidth flowing through Oregon.

The way the fiber is run, it heads back to your local Central Office (CO), so it can just as easily be placed in rural areas as urban areas since it only needs to go a (approx) couple miles at the most. Obviously cost is a consideration (how many customers, politics, etc.).

If you move into a new house that is just being built, there is a good chance it will already be run for you. We've been trying to get these done because they are quicker and easier to do right from the start. Then you just wait for the fiber run to make it back to the CO and you're ready to go.

If you're not in a new housing area, then it depends on all the usual stuff, politics, how many estimated customers, all the red tape that has to be cut through.

We're pushing hard to get as much rolled out as fast as we can, so if you're in a selected area chances are good that it will be coming SOON. :nice:

kicks me off every night about 2am

seriously as much as i pay for comcast you'd figure they'd get sh%$ right. about evernight around 2am, so the sucker kicks me off. then i have to reset/unplug and replug the da#m thing. gets frustrating when your downloading por... i meant when i'm chatting about school classes. seriously though... every night about 2am, sometimes in the morning i can't even connect. i've complained so many times, all they say is it'll be up shortly. we're experiences difficulties we are aware of the situation.. basicallly meaning that hell of alot of people are pissed about the $hit. can't wait till other options are available. i would have dsl but i live so fkn far away, can't get. :notnice:

I have Comcast also, was having the same problem. Went on to their web site and read some of their forums and they have a fix. Change the DNS Server from auto find to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 This is the numbers under you local area connection properties, internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties. The guys online said it worked for them. I changed mine and it worked for me.
