Common Issue with AODE cars?

Alright so my 18 year old sister has a 94 GT. Cars a 5.0 AODE with a catback, CAI and 3.73s. The issue is the tranny. I had an AOD in my 89 and it sucked but this trannies a joke. It lags so bad between shifts, and downshifting is scary. If your in D on a highway roll and hit it, the car free wheels to 5000+ and then slams into gear. Is this normal?

Also the car refuses to downshift. It seems that if I give it more and more gas it lugs more and more, until Im almost at full throttle then more or less drops 2 gears down. My guess is the trannies on its way out, but if this sounds normal than no worries!

Common issues = they are slow :D

But seriously, I think there is a sensor you can try to keep the neutral drop from happening. It's been discussed before on here.

FWIW - put a stall and a shift kit in the tranny and you'll love it again.

The downshifting is because the throttle cable it a bit too long for our cars. that puts WOT right when the pedal's in the carpet. Here's a How-To for you:

The article says for 99 and 2000, but it works for our years too.

The throttle idea is good, but if the trannies going maybe we should just send it out and have it looked at.

This is my 18 year old sisters car, it has to be slow. No converter and shift kit for it, we already have too many Mustangs we race!

Thanks for the insight guys!

Yeah Im not sure how slow ours actually is as I dont street race it or havent taken it to the track, but it sure doesnt feel right.

From a dead dig and full throttle it shifts at 5000-5500 RPM which is better than my AOD that was in my 89, but the shifts are very slow. I might get a video one day of what Im talking about but it does feel like the tranny is going.

Maybe T5 swap time? :D

Grady, my friend, just because we had several glasses of Thunderbird on that one wonderful evening, please don't think I'm always so easy.

Oh wait, that's not what you meant. :bang:
