OK, here is my question...
I have an '05 GT with IUP on order, scheduled for Jan. 3. Does the message center have a compass function?

What other goodies can be displayed on it? I can't find mention of it in any of the literature.

Thanks,
TKO

hey tmk,

I dont remember if there was a compass.
but the functions i do remeber how many miles you can go before you run out of gas. average MPG, average MPH, it also displays text like driver side door ajar there were other functions on it as well.

But because I wont have my 05 till the end of febuary/beginingof march I cant just go outside and look...man i wish I had ordered 3 months ago!

Nope. No compass. You can purchase a compass/temp rear view mirror from ford though.

I think the Ford message center has the letters N, NE, S, SE, etc. on the readout. At least the '04 Sable LS I drove recently had that. I'd rather have the compass in the rear view mirror as on some Fords myself, but it beats no compass at all.

Having not seen the Message Center in the 2005, from what I am hearing, it sounds exactly the same as My Lincoln LS.

Average MPG
Miles to empty
Oil Life %
Door(s) status
Light Bulb(s) status
Engine Temp status
Cabin Air Filter Life %

Compass is built into the auto dimming mirror.

If you get the mirror, it is a double edged sword

It is nice to not get blinded from behind, but you get so used to the lights not being bright that when someone taller than you gets next to you, it almost blinds you in the side mirror.

A little tint fixed that for me though

Thanks guys. I was more curious than anything.

I didn't know you could get an upgraded mirror. I assume this is something that the dealership would install.

Meat, that sucks about the wait. I was originally quoted to receive my car at the beginning of March with a build date in Feb, but all of a sudden I was told by the dealership that I have a build date of Jan. 3. I ordered the car at the end of Nov. My order is a W. blue gt with leather, IUP, and side airbags. Maybe you will get it sooner as well. All in all I am pretty happy with the whole deal - not too long to wait, and $2300 off from MSRP.

I dunno. Sometimes you can get turned around on some back ass road or city street and knowing which way you are going is a lot easier with a compass on the mirror than trying to see where the damn sun is! And if it's cloudy, you'll be pulling over to look at the moss on the trees!

No compass and no outside temp. I couldn't hardly belive it when I found out. My '04 F150 has both so I assumed the Mustang would. I got a price to have a mirror with Homelink, outside temp, and compass installed for $500. I think I'm going to do it.

That's $200+ for just the labor. I installed a compass/autodim/temp mirror in my Cobra -- did the labor myself, it was not hard at all.

I did a search on it, and I came up with this. Not sure it is the exact same thing, but hope it helps.

Built in garage door opener

If you have your lights/heat/tv/etc hooked up to a remote (like a garge door) you can program the different buttons to turn on the lights etc.

Homelink is, from I recall, an X10 based home automation transmitter. You can have it set to turn on lights and stuff.
