I've been noticing alot of charger r/t's around town (don't know why; ugly i guess)
has anybody raced these guys to see what they've got? I drive past 'em all day but they don't seem as spirited...not that I would condone street racing ofcourse

I guess it really depends on which RT you mean the numbers are below (from cars.com btw):

Charger RT AWD:
Engine horsepower 350-hp @ 5,400 rpm
Engine torque 390 lbs.-ft. @ 4,200 rpm
0-60 mph 5.14 seconds
1/4 mile 13.77 seconds at 98.02 mph
Lateral acceleration .80 g
Slalom 58 mph
Curb weight 4,031 lbs.

Charger SRT8:
Engine horsepower 420-hp @ 6,000 rpm
Engine torque 420 lbs.-ft. @ 4,800 rpm
0-60 mph 5.43 seconds
1/4 mile 13.78 seconds at 102.86 mph
Lateral acceleration .86 g
Slalom 59 mph
Curb weight 4,160 lbs.

Mustang GT:
Engine horsepower 300-hp @ 5,750 rpm
Engine torque 320 lbs.-ft. @ 4,500 rpm
0-60 mph 5.75 seconds
1/4 mile 14.02 seconds at 104.61 mph
Lateral acceleration .89 g
Slalom 60 mph
Curb weight 3,483 lbs.

So.... the $3000 cheaper awd version of the charger is actually slightly faster than its counterpart.... Well I learned something pulling those numbers for you. Unless they are wrong. Considerint the AWD version starts at $32k+ I think you could take a $26k+ gt and use that $6k for something that could smoke the hell out of it.

P.S. They are ugly as hell.

Without the charger having a few mods, there's no competition. The drivebywire system in the mopars is worse than on our Mustangs. While my Magnum had the horsepower, it was heavy and the throttle was extremely lagged. The Chargers are a bit better, but not much. Unless they have a tune, there's no way they'll keep up.

A co-worker has one and I ran him with my 94 SHO and was dead even
with him until roughly 70mph then he slowly crept by. I bug him to run
my stang but he wont. I think I'd easily take him.

So where in the hell did cars.com get those numbers from? From them alone it should be able to beat the gt??!?!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just bought my GT the beginning of the month I cant wait to start the mods. Im also interested any other race experiences, so i know what im getting into... I have a friend with a stock '04 stock GTO that talks all kinds of mess. Im pretty sure I dont have a chance but maybe ill get some mods in before we get a chance to run 'em.

look at the niumbers posted by cars.com. the GTs ET is slower in the 1/4, but faster MPH. that tells me they didnt drive the car to its potential.

magazine racing (or bench racing as some call it) should be left on the newstand. real world numbers are a far better measurement.

I haven't seen any at the track either, and only a few around town. There is one that I see every few days that tries to play with me on the street. It is a well disguised silver, plain looking charger, but I think he has some serious work done. Every time I see him around town, he'll goose the throttle, and play a bit.

It sounds like he's blown, and he doesn't seem to have a problem chirping the tires in first from a 10 mph roll. I'd love to stop and talk to the guy, but it's yet to happen. Hopefully I'll run into him at the track when it opens in a month. I'm sure as hell not going to race him on the street.....especially since almost the entire city is a 25 mph limit....

10-20mph is just starting to get into the power band on those cars. they're dead from a dig, but from a roll, not so bad. Well, it's the power band and the tuning. The tcs is hell on those things, and they lag so bad. but if you kick them from 10-20mph they'll give a good squeal. He most likely was not blown, as the only company that mass produced blowers for them had a ton of trouble and most people's engines blew.

I ran one in the Archbold area midnight a couple weeks back. We lined up twice. I had good launches and so did he (he better have, he;s an auto), In 1st and second gear I was pulling at a steady rate; not fast on him, but steady. By the time I had hit 80 - 90, it turned to a slow pace. I got him by about 1 - 2 car lengths both times. It's kind of hard to jusge position at night, but that's my guess.

this was at the track, right? we all know StangNet does not allow street racing posts. that track must have bad lighting.

A Hemi-charger, non SRT-8 are not very quick. I have seen a couple run and they are mid-low 14 second cars. From what I have seen from 05+ Mustangs and mine included are mid 13's...
