The best swap for you depends on the wheels you want to run. Some wheels require the SN95 brakes.

Exactly.

I wouldn't mind seeing this street rod that the wheels are supposed to go on. I agree that the Magnesium centers are the right finish for the rod. Just like the Torque Thrusts had way way back in the day. Which wheels do you plan to put on the car after you take the current ones off?

Two reasons.......

First, cost. I just can not justify the cost of the SN95 brake upgrade. With spindles, master cylinder, brake lines, etc.... I felt it was too much money and work for it to be worth the effort for my needs. I spent less than $300 to make the entire 5 lug change. Compare that to the cost of a SN95 swap.

Second, was the wheels I choose to go with. They didn't need the SN95 front brakes and actually the SN95 brakes would limit some wheel choices to wheels I didn't want.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of performance, if you were going to go 5 lug, then you might as well have brakes that are night and day difference. But if it prevented you from a wheel choice I understand.

That's insane!!! $200 bucks for used parts!?!?! You can buy the FRPP axle conversion kit M-1126-A (both axles and 2 drums) brand new for the MSRP of just $226.95.

I just did a ranger axle/lincoln rotor swap on my 90LX. i paid $80 for axles and $30 for brand new drums. I paid $70 for brand new rotors. The rear end took me about 45 minutes. the front, about an hour. I had to use 5/16" spacers up front for my 03 Cobra wheels to fit.

BERT306 wow that is a beautiful looking ride

I know this is probably redundant as hell but I gotta get it straight so please bear with me. I plan on doing this conversion asap.

Can you list the exact year range and model of vehicle you got your:

- Rear axle and Drums

- Front brake setup (the whole thing please )

I also read somewhere that the master cylinder and brake lines must also be changed with the swap due to the increased rotor and drum size (isn't it like a 1" increase for both the drums and rotors?)... is that true?

thanks

Here's what I used.

Rear Axles: '83-'92 Ranger I4 or V6 with 7.5" rear axle. You need 2 drivers side axles and any 2 of the rear brake drums. Ranger and Mustang have the exact same size drums - 9"

Front Brakes: '84-'92 Lincoln Mark VII NON-ABS front rotors. Also for the front, you need the inner and outer wheel bearings and bearing seals. Lincoln and Mustang have the same diameter rotor - 10.9".

The only difference is 5 lugs vs 4. No other mods are needed. It is simple remove and replace with the new parts. Don't forget the new brake pads and brake shoes too.

No master cylinder or brake line changes needed with the Lincoln rotor/Ranger axle swap. SN95 brake swap does require a change though.

If fact it is so easy and simple, I can not under stand why Ford didn't ship all Mustangs with these parts right from the factory as OEM equipment.

No kidding. That way, if you ever wanted to upgrade to SN-95-spec stuff, you would still be able to use existing wheels.

Ok so just to get this straight you can upgrade to the lincon rotors up front and still use ford wheels as long as you use a spacer? Or did BERT306 have to use a spacer even using third party wheels?

All you change is the rotor. Everything else stays the same.

I don't know. I do know that some wheels will not bolt up to those rotors, though. It can be found out in this link though. For all who have questions regarding 5-lug conversions, read this first!
http://mjbobbitt.home.comcast.net/mustang/5lug.html

This site is extremely helpful and you will keep coming back to it as you have questions. It tells you everything on how to convert to 5-lug. He just recently put the site back up. It was taken down because people pretty much weren't reading the site for its intended purpose and were PM'ing or e-mailing him questions when they could have just looked it up on the website.

No problem. I can also link you with a write-up of the installation of the full Cobra setup. Tells you everything that was installed and a few hardships he overcame. He wrote it very well detailed.
