computer chips

I wan`t some advice on a good computer chip that will give me some power and what not but i don`t know what to get. Some of the computer chips I`ve been looking at seem only to be good for open throttle and hills..I want one to give more power all the time...I have an 89 5.0 lx...anyone that has bought computer chips help me find a good one for around $300....thanks

The aftermarket chips function is to advance the timing over the stock setting...save your cash and put a timing gun on the car, bring it up to 14 degrees and you've accomplished EXACTLY what the off the shelf chip would do. Best part is you can use the money you save for other "real" modifications. Don't confuse having a chip "burnt" via dyno tuning, with the general aftermarket chips...they have nothing in common at all.

i had an ads superchip in my car and noticed no difference whatsoever when i took it out. im just glad that the guy that owned the car before me bought it. i gave it to a guy on here for his stang, and i dont know if he noticed any difference.. i think his name is neko blue or something similar if you want to ask him about it

Spend your $300 on some of these items and you'll get a real performance boost...

On a budget? do the junkyard upgrade...

Gears - 87-88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe rear axle - disc brakes and 3.55 or 3.73 gears in one package for $125-$300. Add another $100-$200 or so to complete the brake upgrade.

94-95 Mustang GT MAF - $40-$100. It is 70 MM instead of the stock 55 MM on regular stangs built prior to 94. It uses a slip on duct on the side that goes to the throttle body and a 4 bolt flange on the other. You need a $25-$35 flange adapter from Pro-M to fit the stock slip on air ducting that goes to the air box. Wiring plugs right in with no changes. *1

95-97 Ford Explorer intake manifold & throttle body $150-$300. The intake manifold flows 220 CFM +, much better than stock. Throttle body is 65 MM, bigger than the 60 MM on stock stangs. I got a 96 with EGR passages that match the stock setup, so my smog gear works just like factory. You’ll need a 65 MM EGR spacer & new gaskets for $65-$90 so you have a place to mount the EGR & throttle linkage.

3G alternator from 94-95 Mustangs or other Ford. $20-$120. A must have to make the electrical system work like it should. You’ll need a 4 gauge power wire and a 125-135 amp fuse to go with it about $15- $30.

Lincoln MK VIII electric fan -$40-$160. Free up some HP by not having to drive the stock fan. The 3G alternator upgrade is a must have prerequisite before you do the MK VIII fan. You won’t have enough electrical power if you don’t do the 3G upgrade.

*1.) I got a metal flange adapter from Powered by Ford for $35 and tax. That was over a year ago. Summit Racing may also have one too.

dont waste any money on a chip, they do nothing. like dman said, spend $15 on a cheapy timing gun and set the timing to 14 degrees youself (take 5 minutes, 10 if youve never dont it) and there you go, you still have your 300 you can spend on a set of gears that will make a huge difference

I just picked up a 70MM MAF from a 95 stang for my 91. Will the difference be at all noticeable compared to the stocker?
That's what I am running. It has been so long ago that I forgot if there was much seat of the pants difference.

Custom burned chips from a chassis dyno r worth every penny they cost. BUT they r only needed when u stroke the motor or when u add boost. The stock computer still thinks it is a 302, when it is a 331/347 stroker. It dials in the air/fuel ratio to prevent running too rich or too lean among other things. i picked up 20rwhp and 25rwtq on my 347.

I don't believe in superchips or hypertech chips, period.

So to use this MAF (one from the 95 stang) do i take the sensor out and swap mine in? Or just use the housing and the electronics from the 95 and just plug it in?

Also does is the 95 MAF supposed to have a screen in there like the 87-93 ones?

It is a one for one swap - the whole MAF assembly comes out and the 94-95 one goes in, electronics and all.

There is no screen in the 94-95 MAF. Leave the screen in you old MAF, it helps to smooth the airflow to the MAF element.
