Music, pictures, any large games? Go to delete programs and see if you have any large programs. Do you have spyware/virus protection?

Check out these links for cleaning up your harddrive:
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/techfiles/clean_hd.html
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/northrup_restoreperf.mspx
http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/xp15minutes/

If you can swing it you may want to think about putting in a second hard drive just for storage. You can pick up an 80gb drive for about $45+.
List of Internal drives from NewEgg.com
List of drives from CompUsa

Or if you don't want to mess around with installing an internal drive, you can get a USB external drive for about $80.

I used to have a program that would search your entire computer and give you a blue bar graphs of where all your space is on your hard drive.

It would show you what directories, folders, and even which sub folders were holding the largest files and taking up the most room so you could browse into them and delete anything you did not need.

It was a free program but I found something similar

You've deleted all your music, videos, and pictures and you're still short on space? 40 gigs? What kind of programs are you using? Somethings up...
