My car is in the shop and my mechanic says the computer is toast (check engine light, no response when trying to run codes). He's been trying to track down a computer, but says that he is looking for a specific ten-digit number for the correct computer. I thought an A9L was an A9L. It's a '90 with a '91 engine transplant. What's the deal? The weather is getting nice and i want my restoration project on the road. Thanks.

Correct,
An A9L is an A9L...

Sometimes there can be reasons for not getting codes, which don't mean a bad ecu...

Maybe someone else can chime in here, as I don't recall specifics...

Could it have something to do with the neutral safety switch or something like that?

Niemand is busy but I'll give it a shot.

Take a read through this list.

Good luck.

Welcome to the boards.

You'll want to start a new thread, giving all the pertinent details of the swap, including years.

Also qualify how the car runs like crap. Missing, running rich, etc, all help.

It sounds like there are some wiring issues to be sorted. Once you can retrieve codes and figure out why your TPS return reads VREF, you should be a lot closer.

Black Sun- What exactly is the problem with your car? Is it a no start or anything? Not reading codes could be a communication error and not the actual ECU. More info please sir!
