I have been dealing with a detonation issue that has been causing me headaches since last year. :bang: This is what kept getting in the way of running nitrous, or heck even giving the car a nice WOT blast. An entire year!

This year, I started attacking the problem in earnest. New plugs. New wires. New cap and rotor. New battery. Took off my FIPK and put on my stock airbox w/new K&N. New ACT sensor. Finally last night was the new ECT sensor.

So far, so good... no pinging going on. At least, none last night (went ripping around in the car real hard). But, it was evening, and the air was cooler. Nothing on the way to work today either. Hoping to test it some more in the thick hot afternoon heat we'll be getting (30C, 36C with humidity!). I'll also hopefully have my tranny cooler on by then. Wish me luck... I'm going to need it!

If I'm still getting the problem, I think that I'm either on the road to getting new o2 sensors, or a new offroad H pipe or even a tweecer so I can tune the car to get rid of the pinging.

Oh, before I forget.

I got my tranny cooler at Candian Pifpaf awhile ago. I was originally getting it for the 83, but decided last night to put it on my 95.

However, the fittings they give with it don't seem to fit. I was hooking it up to the return line, and one of the fittings isn't deep enough for the cooler line going back to the tranny.

Is there any place I can go to that has fittings that would possibly suit my purpose? If not, would getting a trannny temp gauge and putting it there (like the B&M one) help my fitting fit correctly?

I hope you solved your problem. Hopefully mine is solved as well. Last year it was pinging for nothing at like 13*and even 12* I think. But I told you that the IAT sensor wasnt well placed and that the sensor itself wasnt getting the proper "voltage" or whatever it'S suppose to do. Now I got the balancer at 10*(with spout out) and I got my global timing advance to 4* on my EEC Tuner so that means I'm running 14*. So far so good for me too. Even if I havent floored it yet..

I might be going to the Gatineau Mustang meet tonight. Do you wanna join me ?

3H !! Wow ça c'est slow en maudit :)

Pour un petit meet comme cela, ça vaut pas la peine de se déplacer de loin. Pour la belle soirée qu'on avait, on était juste 6-7 stangs  SUCKS...

Jim, I totally forgot to call you back  I went to show my car to my girlfriend's parents and then It was time to leave. Sorry man.

Yeah, 3 hours would be like doing 60 km/h all the way. Or maybe they took the 148? It is definitely the "scenic" route. If you went through a bunch of villages and towns then you took the 148.

No biggie Mario, after doing groceries I just wanted to collapse :D .

Going back on topic again. I got some more ping going on, but its nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I basically have to beat the tar out of my car on an extremely hot day, and I can pull off pinging at 5500rpm. This is a drastic improvement over what my car was doing the day before, which was ping at 1000rpm!!! The car runs waaay cooler too.

The previous testing was done with stock timing and 87 octane. So now I should be able to go up to 91 and pop up the timing as well.

I'm hoping that the tranny cooler will help things along even more. I'm planning on adding some water wetter to bring things down even further.

Another update:

The last week I was running with Sunoco 94 octane. Not a single ping to be heard. Then as soon as I went down to 91, it started to ping again. This time only on the top end of first gear.

At night when its cooler, there's no detonation. Mind you, once again that's with 91. It will probably detonate like a rattlesnake with 87 in it.

Here's what I've done to the car to help stop the pinging:
New Plugs
New Wires
New Battery
New Cap and Rotor
New ACT/IAT Sensor
New ECT Sensor
Running 20w50 oil
Backed timing off to 8 degrees
Cleaned MAF
Cleaned entire intake
Checked codes (no codes)

Here's short term steps:
Finish the installation of my transmission cooler
Check vacuum for leaks
Install a 155lph fuel pump to see if it helps
Put on a O/R H Pipe

If that *still* doesn't fix it, here are my long term goals:
Change the o2's
Get a Tweecer, and tune the problem away.

8 degree's timing? are you driving a hay wagon or a Mustang??

Cryps... jam that S.O.B to 14 and let'r pop... if she can't take it we'll build ya new one!!! what's next ? 4 degrees timing and never going over 40mph? BLOW THAT BYTCH UP BRO!!!

LOL! sorry she's act'n up on ya Big Jim

Actually right now, I'm down to 7 degrees, on 92 octane, and finally not pinging. I have a few other tricks up my sleeve just yet.

Just a shot in the dark, but why not upgrade to a better ignition?? MSD or something. Did you check your Ignition module, and the little thingy(sorry can;t think of the name for it right now) inside the distributor??

I haven't upgraded the ignition box yet. The stock ones worked fine last time I tested them, tho I'm going to test them more next week.

If I knew for sure that an ignition box would fix my problem, yeah I'd probably go out and buy one.
