If you put a new top on a convertible, do you need to change the headliner at the same time or can that be added any time later?

You can change it out later. Theyre seperate pieces, atleast on the 94 gt i had. I put a new top on st the same time as the headliner, but the top goes over the frame and the headliner goes under to hide it. Not a week later i got home from work and my brand new top was shredded, the f'ed up thing is i live like a 1/4 mile off the road and my car wasnt visible from the street. Somebody didnt like my new top, the damn car wasnt even running
