Converting stock heads to stud mount rockers?????

As the title says, i need to know exactly what i have to have done to convert pedestal mount e7 heads to stud mount. I have a set of e7 heads they have1.94 intake, and 1.60 exhaust valves (chevy valves) and they are shorter than stock. So I need to convert my heads to stud mount. Right???? Will i have to buy new pushrods or anything else other than rocker arms.......


if so please make a list of work to be done and items to buy, if you have an idea of the price that would also be helpful.

Why would someone use chevy valves in ford heads...although I don't know if it would really matter as long as they were the correct length - which seems to be your problem. I'm really curious to see what people say about this as I really have no idea. I would suggest that you can't convert from pedestal mount to stud mount. Do you know the difference? Stud mount means the heads have studs to mount the rocker arms; pedestal mount heads require bolts to bolt the rockers down. Maybe if you got a stud puller and pulled the studs out and used bolts the same size to hold 'em down, but I don't see how that would fix your problem to be honest w/ ya. I'd say you just need longer valves.

to convert them to stud mount, you have to get them drilled. at a machine shop is your best bet

Crane has a conversion kit, we used on a friends car, nice setup, they also recomend a certain length pushrod, got the kit at Summit for about $70.00.

I have the conversion studs and a set of of the Comp Stainless Steel rockers to go with them $125 if anyone is interested.

Most of the aftermarket heads use them. Ford has jacked up valve sizes.

so i guess with a conversion kit, all you would have to buy is the roller rockers..............In my thought, i was gonna order a set of custom length valves , so that the 1.94 and 1.60 would them be the same length as the stock valves, and i could keep my pedestal mount rockers...........do anyone know if this will work either, i just bought the rocker arms and would like to keep them...... plus i don't have to adjust the pedestal mount ones.....

I think you would be better off getting the proper length valves if you already have rockers and pushrods. Also, even with pedestal mount rockers you have to check clearences and depending on your heads may require shims on some of them to make them work. Stud mount are very easy to adjust and you don't need any shims.

well i already have a couple shim kits from crane from where i had the heads milled .035 for compression.......... I found a set of valves for around 150$ so i think i am gonna go that route...........................when i measured my stock valves i came up with 5.038.........kinda an odd number but idon't think i did it right.

If you use the Comp Cams stud kit, it bolts on direclty with no machine work, simply screw them in. There is a 5/16 thread on the bottom, and a 3/8 stud at the top for the rocker.

However, if you have shorter valve stems, you may not be able to get the rockers low enough for proper ajustment before the rockers hit the flange/nut portion of the stud.

I put this setup on some 78 heads, with earlier year Ford valves that were shorter, and could not get adjustment. I had to have the rocker pedestals machined down 1/4 inch and use a bottoming tap in the holes, and get shorter pushrods to match the setup of the valves.

However this stud kit fit my iron GT40 heads perfectly and works fine.

Note that you need either guideplates or rail tip rockers to keep the rockers aligned. I have over 100k miles on my set of Comp Cams studs and roller tip rail style rockers with no probs.

From what I remeber, all that is needed to make the Chevy valves work in the E7TE heads are longer 289 pushrods. Seems like a lot of extra work converting it to stud mount.
