I am thinking of converting my stock hood scoop to a functional ram air intake. Somewhere in the dusty corners of my mind i know i have seen an article on how to do this but i cant seem to get a google on it. Anybody got a link?

Not looking to buy. thinking of converting the existing stock scoop by cutting the hood and plumbing down to the knfipk. maybe $60 worth parts max. i know there are questions as to the effectiveness of a 'ram air' mod so i am not expecting big gains.

Only advice I have is to bondo or find a good way to hook that friggen scoop to the hood for good. It's double sided tape and a few screws holding it on from the factory.

The scoop is not high enough in the airstream to be an effective scoop.

Also, by making it functional, you are increasing the drag on the car. The scoop was never designed to take in air so it isn't as structurally sound as it needs to be. SOme guys have ripped their scoops right off at speed. The reason why Ford put that black honeycomb insert so close to the front of the scoop is a good one.

A popular mod for Mach 1 owners is to actually raise their scoops up higher because they are not high enough in the airstream....and mach 1 scoops are higher than GT scoops.

I say go for it.. try it and let us know how it turned out and how much it costs.. along with what u used.. i've thought about it a few times, but i dont think i could hold myself to cutting on my hood haha

do it up, even if you dont run the intake to it you can still have the scoot bringing in fresh air to cool the engine bay, cant hurt.

just drill out the holes in the plastic honey comb and cutout under the scoop

KarKraft.com sold a kit for this a couple of years back. It didn't look like it was worth it....contact them and and ask for a set of directions or a schematic for repair purposes and see if you can duplicate their set-up.

50 Resto use to sell it too.

If you are interested in see it, Mustang Weekly has a set of instructions showing its components and installation.
