coolant from crossover gasket on lower intake

I am out of ideas trying to fix my coolant leak. First of the car isnt burning coolant so that is a good thing. The leak is coming from the crossover gasket on the lower intake. I had cork gaskets there when i put the edelbrock intake on but I took those off, replaced the lower intake gaskets and tried using silicone. Yea that didnt work. Still pissing coolant out right around the distributor. I bought a stock set of gaskets and used the rubber crossover gaskets and it still leaks. Then the heater core went out, so I bypassed that. I tried using a lower pressure radiator capthinking that I had too much pressure in the system, and I even left the cap off and it still leaks. Note this is a new intake only about 6 months old or so. I really need to get this fixed so if anyone has delt with this problem tell how to fix this *****!

Well done this a few times with success...pull the intake and clean the daylights out of the block and head surfaces. Put RTV (for water) on the coolant ports lightly on both the head and intake side of the gasket. Use 5/16 bolts with the heads cut off as dowels...screw the bolt into the holes for the lower bolts. Run a bead of RTV 1/4 thick across the ends of the block and blob it at the corners ( I like the black RTV). Let the sealant set for 10 minutes to set, then place the intake over the dowels and lower onto the engine. The dowls will prevent the intake from moving and displacing the RTV..the intake will fall perectly into position. Now remove the dowels and drop the bolts into place tightening to hand tight. Now tighten in proper sequence in intervals of 10LBS,15lbs,18lbs...go over the whole thing at 18 lbs two or three times and button her back up. Finally after 100 and again at 500 miles retorque and you should not have any leaks.

DMan has a good process outlined above.

Other than warpage the only thing to mess up is the installation. I have screwed it up before, and it is frustrating. Check out the pic...

Are your lower intake gaskets coming off the heads like that?

Use some silicone on the gasket to hold it in place. Let it get slightly tacky before dropping the lower intake into place.

Studs are very nice for the lower intake. I picked mine up at Home Depot.

Good luck
