Well my coolant light under the tach has gotten to the point where its always on. I check my coolant level regularly so I know its an issue with the sensor. I have a 2000 GT and I was wondering how the sensor works. Is it a floater type of sensor or is it some sort of electrode sensor. Also does anyone know how to fix this annoying problem. Everytime someone rides in my car they go "Uh oh, whats that light mean?" Thanks for all the help guys.

Same problem here. Mine has been on since before I bought it, coolant is full.

Supposidly the floater takes a dump after time and gets stuck, triggering the light. Thats what ive heard.

you have to have a certain amount of coolant in there for it to float... you cant just keep adding water... you could alwsy just take the bulb out of the cluster or unplug it.

Mine's always on now since the engine swap a few months ago. Annoying but I know my coolant is full. My brother was having the same problem on his '97.

Is it possible to fix the float mechanism so it doesn't get stuck anymore? If I find out that I need to buy some new part that costs $100+, I'm going to disconnect the sensor to shut that light off.

Also, I noticed today that the light doesn't come on until the engine warms up. I wonder if the coolant level actually IS getting low in the reservoir once the thermostat opens up.

I've looked at my tank when the car is hot and running, the level stays right up there. The sensor is shot.

Bang on the tank lightly with a hammer handle end. the fill the tank fast with the water pressure. I fixed mine like this. Let us know how you make out.
