Coolant passage question

I have no heater core and no throttle body "heater", so my question is, what's the cleanest way to plumb everything up? It doesn't seem like I'd even need to have lines running to the back of the engine.

In stock form, the smaller line out of the water pump runs to the heater core and TB, and then loops back to the front of the intake, while the TB line goes to the back of the intake. Instead, can I run this line directly to the front of the intake? Or better yet, just block it off and stick my coolant sensor in the intake spot?

If you dont have and EGR spacer or a heater core, you can delete the metal tubes that run along the lower intake. Move the ECT sensor to the port where the metal tube screws into the intake ( you will need a brass adapter you can pick up at the hardware store) Run on coolant line from the WP to the bypass in the water neck and cap the other off with a rubber plug and clamp.

Thanks for the reply. Your last sentence is more info than I can handle at once...

I understand putting the ECT in place of the metal tube at the front of the intake. However, I'm not sure what you're saying about running a line from the water pump to the bypass at the water neck??

Basically, I'm picturing the ECT sensor screwing into the spot occupied by the heater core return line, and then I'll have the hose coming off of the WP with no where to go? I assume this is the line you're talking about. Where does it need to go?

Right now your ECT screws into the heater line. Buy a brass fitting from the hardware store that will fit where the heater line screws into the lower intake. It will need a female side that reduces to the thread size of the ECT sensor. That will take care of that.

There is currently a hose that runs from the WP to the heater line. Since you will be removing the metal heater line, Cap that port at the WP with a rubber cap and hose clamp you can buy at the parts store.

There is also a small 90* hose that runs from the WP to the water neck. That one will stay in place as it is.

If you are looking to clean it up, thats probably the best way. Or you could just cap the plugs that normally run coolant to the EGR spacer and run a small bypass hose at the rear of the heater tubes. You can get 1 that works perfectly at the parts store. I posted a pic of it in this thread:

the adapter you'll need to make the ect sensor work is a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer. the port in the lower intake is 1/2 and the ect sensor is 3/8.

Alright, that makes sense.

One last question that's basically on the topic...

The stock setup has the return from the EGR spacer going to a port at the rear of the intake. My new GT-40 intake has this port capped off. I assume I can just leave it capped? What's the point of this anyways? Do the back of the heads actually need cooling from this?

You can leave it capped. There is no flow back there. The drivers side is always capped. The passenger side usually has a nipple fitting for the coolant from the EGR to go into. There are no coolant openings in the lower intake for it to flow anywhere from there.
