Cooling Fan Not Working

Anyone have this happen to them?

My cooling fan is not working. I have no idea why. I believe it hasn't been working for several months now, though I just noticed this morning when I changed my thermostat and flushed my cooling system.

Any tips for what to look at are appreciated.

Check the connector and see if it is black at all. Does the fan come on with the a/c? Why do you think it's not working right?

Some but not all 94-95's have a fan recall. They freeze up a lot. Check with your dealer. Mine went bad too however mine wasn't under recall. I wound up buying a complete new unit from the dealer. They only sell it as a complete setup. If you want to goof around with taking yours apart Napa sells just the motor.

The fan recall was a bs thing from ford. I was having problems with mine and they installed a breaker in the fan so if it was pulling too many amps my fan shut off. I just got a new oem motor from az for $50. The ford motor I took out of mine said seimens/ford and my replacement was a seimens. But it could me the ect, ccrm or something else.

Why do you think it's not working right?

Because I had the car running at idle for 45 minutes, then drove the car for 15 minutes, then idled it for another 15 this morning and the fan didn't turn on once.

I didn't realize that the fan turned on when you use the AC, I'll specifically try that.

Also when you run the codes it checks the low speed and high speed fan. There is a way you can do it with a multi meter and the instructions are online somewhere but I dont remember what site had them. If they both come on when you do that then it's probably the ect.

When my fan was acting up some on here suggested i change out the temp sensor (not the sender which is for your gauge reading) that sends the water temp signal to the computer... Turns out my sensor was on the fritz, Fan turns on and off when it should now. Just something to look into.

Just so we are clear, you guys are referring to the "engine coolant temperature" sensor when you say "ect", right?

Is this the sensor that is located right below the cap on the coolant overflow tank?

The coolant temp sensor is located up on the intake manifold, passenger side, behind the dizzy. The sensor located on the overflow bottle, is the low coolant sensor.

The ect wich controlls the fans is the sensor on the heater core right above the t-stat housing.

there is one to the left and one behind the dizzy. The one to the left is the ect witch controlls the fans and gives the computer the temp readouts it it 2 or 3 wires. The one behind the dizzy is the sender for the gauge and thats it's only purpose and it's a 1 wire sensor.

If changing the sensor doesn't work, I think I'm going to install a manually operated fan, so I can use it whenever I want instead of depending on sensors which may or may not be working correctly.

It would be nice to also start the fan as soon as I finish a 1/4 mile pass.

Then it could be the ccrm or the fan motor or the fan itself. You need to determin if the fan comes on or not with the a/c on. if so then it's probably the sensor. If not then it could be the ccrm or the wiring somewhere. If it's the ccrm the switch wont do you any good becuase the switch works with the ccrm. The ccrm is the black right next to the overflow and it holds the fuel pump relay and the high speed and low speed fan relays.

It's prolly the fan motor.I burned out 2 of them in the past 50000 miles.The only place to get a new one is the dealer.I tried all the motors from napa and auto zone etc. and none of them fit right.The blade on the stock motor doesnt fit right on the aftermarket motors.You have to buy the whole assy. from the dealer its like $300(ripoff).A good way to check the motor is to hook up a direct 12volt source and see if the fan kicks on.AODE cars seem to burn up the motors a little faster.If you find a aftermarket motor that works let me know I'm about due for another burnout.Good Luck!Oh yea I even tried aftermarket fan assy. too,that didnt work either.The elec fan upgrade for the 87-93 cars dont fit either.

what are the temps for the stock fan to kick on...

with a/c on my car wont go past 210
but with it off itll creep up to 220-225ish
