Help guys. 95 GT Conv, New Radiator, New fan and shroud, Runs hot when at speed, i.e. 75 mph, (gauge has never lied so far), but normal when at idle on non summer days. Runs hot on summer days with A/C running. Thermostat? Car has almost 200K miles.
manual fan switch? new radiator is a stock replacement or aluminum? when was the last time you flushed the system? did you bleed out all the air in the system before running it? could be air pockets. get some water wetter from summit to help keep it cooler. get an accurate autometer guage over stock so you can be sure
I'd say burping the system is the way to go. ANd change the thermostat just to be safe. At 75 mph you fan shouldent have to come on...the airflow moving across the radiator should be enough.
Overheating at higher speeds like that definately rules out the fan.
You didn't say anything about your water pump, when was that changed last.. and the thermostat is an easy thing to try. I guess a water pump HAS to work if it's spinning.
Well after much deliberation and a weeked spent replacing thermostat, new gasket, etc, I am amazed at what a difference it made. Who would think a 10$ part would make such a difference. It runs totally normal now. Almost as good as my 06 GT. And when I put the AC on max, and the fan comes on like it should, I can WATCH the temperature fall just like it should. KILLER. Im going to replace the water pump though because it is original to the car and the bearings will fail soon. Thanks guys.
try a good, new thermostat. i was using cheap Stant pieces from Advance, and as soon as i put a good, brass Mr. Gasket unit the overheating stopped at cruise speed.
(my ccrm was also shot, so it was throwing off the high/low fan operations)
