Cop Followed Me Home Tonight...

A lot of the cops like muscle cars. A few weeks back I took my girlfriend to her campus to get some stuff. We were walking back to my car and I see a cop car behind my car. I was like what the hell is this all about. The cop is like nice car what do you have in it. I tell him a 281 with a few mods. He says yeah it sounded awesome when you drove in. Then he told me he bought a new GTO. So we started talking for a half hour about muscle cars and made fun of ricers. Cool cop and he was probably in his 40s. He said he wanted to get full exhaust for his GTO.

Hotmustang Exactly. It seems like a lot of the time cops tend to have a HUGE ego problem. I can personally name 2 cops in our town that let their badge go straight to their head. 2 may not seem like much but when you only have 4 active police cars on duty at any point in time, that could be 1/2 of the cops (excluding sheriff deputy's/the sheriff who is EXTREMELY nice/cool).

I have been pulled over twice since i got my license 2 years ago, excluding getting my exhibition driving ticket that i deserved for doing dounuts in a deserted portion of the school parking lot surrounded by security cameras. The first time I was pulled over, no lie, my speedometer never said higher than 32ish in a 30 and 42ish in a 40. He was one of the hugest dicks on earth. A) he said he clocked me going 35 in a 30 and 45 in a 40, when in reality he was never behind me in a 40. B) He basically tried to say that passing a cop is illegal or something like that, which is bull because i've passed cops many other times and none of them have cared or pulled me over. C) When he asked me why I was "driving like that" he told me i'd be losing my license if I didn't stop driving the way I was, which I guess was doing 32 (or 35 like he said) in a 30. OMFG call the Natl. Guard somebody was doing a couple MPH over the speed limit! When I told him that my speedometer said 32/42 respectively he basically said I was lieing and that his 40+ years of having a license gave him better judgment of speed than my 7 months of having one. Then he asked me what my exhibition driving ticket was for, which had nothing to do with me getting pulled over then. The way it ended up was he gave me a warning and told me to start driving better or i'd be losing my license. He would have seen me in court.

The 2nd time i sorta rolled a stop sign and got pulled over. The guy was extremely nice, just told me to be more careful/aware of the markings, had me call my parents to let them know i'd been pulled over but wasn't getting cited, and let me go. If every cop was like this guy i'd love to get pulled over almost. But the ones like my first experience are the ones that stick and the ones that give the rest of the force the crappy reputation.

When I see cops obeying EACH AND EVERY traffic law in the book.. then I'll start respecting them for pulling people over. The blatant disregard for traffic laws I see cops pulling on nearly a daily basis makes me not give a damn about doing a few MPH over the speed limit. Cops driving 15MPH over the posted speed limit on the interstate is the NORM around here.

Yeah he should have been guarding the Jaguar dealership, like a rent a cop. Lord knows the those Jaguar dealerships are THICK with criminals all the time, always a high crime area. MY GOD he should have KNOWN someone would be there stealing wheels. Cops are all psychic you know.

You dont know my area, you don't know how the cops here operate, nor do you know that local car dealerships have been hit frequently by vandals and thieves last fall. You can disagree with me all you want. My opinions on the local cops here remains.

Exactly! You can also tell when they're nearing the end of their quota term and need to get a few tickets. Usually they all drive around 7-10 over but when it gets to be about that time of the month they start driving RIGHT ON the speed limit in hopes of pulling over some poor soul who feels 5 over is fine.

My friends dad is a cop, he got pulled over doing 60 in a 30 zone. That would be a felony/wreckless endangerment/every other sort of thing they could try nail you with for the average joe, but alls they told this kid was to "slow down and tell your dad hi"

Where I live in NJ the cops are to busy chasing the young kids with rice burners with loud mufflers racing around and real crime. My brother is a cop and said they can't be bothered unless your speeding. Maybe the cops don't bother with me beause I'm 37. I have black out windows(illegal in NJ) and off road X-pipe(also illegal) but I dont' speed around town or draw attention to myself. I have had cops pull next to me at lights and say nice car, sounds good.

I'm not saying all cops are cool, that would be ignorant, as would assuming all cops are *******s. I'm just saying, regardless of experience you gotta have atleast some respect for all the bs they have to put up with. Yeah I know how they can constantly break traffic laws themselves, and i've never liked that.
I guess I just dont take anything so personal like most ppl, I mean you really plan on ever having dinner with the sob that pulled you over?

Most are egotystical because they're human, and they have power, humans are stupid and abuse and manipulate every situation we come into, however, still no reason to say "cops" harrass or any other thing, you gotta just go by individual experience, because not all cops are dicks. Our opinions as formulaic as they may be, are only just what they are, and most people are going to have atleast one bad experience. Look at the statistics. Perceptions are just the way they are, if you're driving a sedan, you're less likely to race, and you're also less likely to get followed by a cop.

Young people driving a nice mustang, or even a nice import, well, you "might" be a target, because, you dont see minivans doing donuts all over the place, or racing, we get a bad rep the same way they do, think about it. The few make the lot look bad. None of which is any good reason to speak for all cops, nobody could assume anything about how millions of people are, in the end it's just too easy to stereotype.

I had a cop follow me once after he says I ran a red light (it was yellow)
Apparently he had been following me for over a mile past the light in question.
I never even saw him until I stopped at another light, looked in my rear view mirrow, made eye to eye contact, then he hit the lights. He was just waiting
to catch me doing something else. I had no idea what I had done.
I said yellow, he said red. Then he wrote out the ticket.....and says
have a nice day.

I live in Philly and i never get messed with here, but as soon as i go over the bridge in Nj i get messed with. So badly that i won't even go to Jersey unless it's to visit mom or go to ATCO.. EVEN THEN I ONLY DRIVE THE SATURN unless it's atco to race.
I always seem to fit the discription of the local bank robber or somebody.. Then when I step out of the car they call for back-up, if I fit the damn description of somebody then you would already have back-up for a 6'6" 320lbs black dude.. and not wait til i get out of the car..
Once a cop driving towards me, we look at each other eye to eye and I already know the drill.. He hooks a U-turn and I pull in the shopping center. Was that were i was going NOPE. but since he pulled a U'y I pulled in, got out of my car and went inside. I came out and the bastard was sitting across the street waiting for me to get back in my car.. so I went to grab a slice of pizza. you know he was still waiting after 15 mins. So I sat on my car and waved him over.. he looked at me all offended and drove off.. *******.. nice to know it's not a racial thing and just a stanger thing...

...dude, are you serious. Tempting you to Run?? Is that from a police handbook or something? And cops do not have quota's anymore. It's illegal and against most union regulations. It's funny how much misinformation and urban myths are spread that becomes fact. Are all cops good and kiss you ass? Nope. The fact is cops do things that people don't like (making arrests, issuing tickets, etc.) and for that, cops aren't liked. But that's only by the nimrods who are getting in trouble.

Actually they still do have quotas, just not official on the record type stuff nor is it called a quota. Around here from what ive heard based off of knowing the kid whos dad is a cop and knowing the sheriffs daughter/son the "quota" is around 300 citations per officer per month. Every station has them whether you'll believe it or not.

Well, MY department doesn't and wow, your cops must not do ANYTHING but write tickets, because if they were, there is no way that 300 tickets a month is possible. I work for a fairly large agency ( 100K population, 160+ officers) and our traffic unit, which that is all they do, don't write 300 tickets per officer per month. And there is NO patrol guys writing anywhere near 300/month. Supervisors have work expectations for the officers, but that includes all aspects of the job (arrests, business checks, reports written, traffic stops,etc), but I think every job has expectations. And I don't disagree that some cops are "badge heavy" and have ego's the size of boulders.

Being as my info is hearsay I can't be 100% sure thats true, alls I know is that there is a set # of citations to be given in a certain time period, AKA a quota of sorts.

Simple Fix. Don't speed. Some people make it sound as if the cop is in wrong for doing his job

i was 20 when i bought my car. i also was taking college classes part time. well, i got off of work, and was stopped at the first traffic light. at the opposite side of the intersection was a police car. i turn right onto the highway. soon he's on my ass. at this point, there is no way he could have caught up to me without breaking the speed limit. i proceed to drive 50mph in the 50mph zone. about 2 miles later, i'm at another intersection to make another right hand turn. he's still right on my ass. i look in my rearview mirror and see the cop and it looks like he's typing on his in-car laptop. probably checking out my plates. the light turns green and i proceed to turn right onto a 35mph road. again i drive proper. looking in my rearview mirror again i notice the cop was still at the intersection. since he was busy looking at the computer, he didn't notice the light changed. so by now i'm a good 1/8th mile down the road. again, this is a 35mph road and i'm doing 35mph. i see him turn onto the road i am on and come flying up on my ass. he must have been doing 60mph atleast to catch up to me. i'm on a 4 lane road. 2 lanes going each direction. there is noone else on my side of the road. the policeman does not pass me but instead, he again starts riding my ass! so i continue driving 35mph and ignore him. 2 more miles go by until i get to the college. i turn into the college parking lot and he follows me! he followed me all the way until i parked my car. pissed off, i was hoping he would stop so i could ask him what the hell his problem was but instead he left the parking lot. in this case, the cop was not "just doing his job". it was borderline harassment. he himself broke atleast 2 laws trying to catch me breaking a law. he was speeding without his lights and siren on and he was following waaay too close. all because he was profiling a young male driving a fast car.

LOL In the last three months I've written a whopping total of 4 traffic citations, 2 of them accident based. Guess I'm in deep chit.
