If anyone out there is good at setting up a ring and pinion set for a 9" 3rd member, please email me. I rebuilt my 3rd member on my 70 Mach and would like a second opinion on the ring gear contact patch. My pics are too large to post and it is easier to email them. I appreciate your help. Thanks.

I think all he wants is for some one to give him a second opinion on the contact patch? I assume he already set up the rest and had the tools to do it and is now making sure he has the proper contact patch for he is ring and pinion. If you already ran the ring and pinion with contact marker you should be able to tell what needs to be done, and be able to adjust the depth and distance for your ring and pinion. Send me a pick and Ill look at see what the contact patch looks like.

TurboDoctor, you are exactly correct. I have the correct tools and the setup meets Motive Gears install specifications. I just wanted a second opinion on the contact patch. Pics are on the way. Thanks.
If it is still out of the car take it over to Jeff at AB&T Transmissions in Round Rock. He does not actually work there (full time day shift) but he does have an office there and is usually in on the weekends. He is blueprinting my 9" ring and pinion and he's an active member on the www.AustinAreaStangs.com forum, goes by the name of "trannymanjeff" I think.

What is "blue printing your 9 in" involve exactly? Its a rear diff, the clearances and specs are either right or wrong. I have heard some people on other forums talking about a blue printed rear end but have no clue what they are talking about and what is involved. I assume they just mean they are paying some one to set up the third member for them and they guy doing the work just likes to make it sound like he is going to do a special job or something  Setting up the third member just requires some basic math, dial indactor and some time. Still amazes me, people will tackle engines wich are far more complicated but wont touch the rear end of their car
