Correct way to get pushrod length

I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the correct way to measure for pushrods? I will have my Roller rockers in a few days and i have a pushrod length checker, but not sure how to have the rocker sitting on the valve to get the correct length, if anyone could help i sure would appreciate it! Thanks!
