Does anyone know how much it costs to have a shop change your gears? I want to go to a 3.73. I figure with the gears from part shopper at 170, I should be able to get the parts and the installation done for under 500. Does that sound reasonable? Also, is anywhere aware of a shop in mass that would do this?

thanks guys

ya know, everytime I read this damn site I get fired up about my stang and my bank account gets pissed at me.

I paid $175.00 to the shop at CJ's Pony Parts. They did a great job and it only took them one day. I had them put in some used gears and I have yet to hear any noise coming from the rearend. Most shops will charge around 200 bucks for the install. If you can't find it that cheap I would keep looking.

Area means a lot, so you got to shop yours. Here (MD) I've found prices that range from $550(gears and speedo + labor) to $700 (labor only!!!). I think those last guys were smoking "crick", $700 and I've got to supply EVERYTHING, I think not!! Anyway, be sure to get more than one estimate for your area.

i paid 150 for my rear end rebuild and gear install. supplied the parts and it was a guy that does side jobs. done in about 3-4 hours or so. i say look around to see if someone will do it on the side cause they usually do it just as well for cheaper

Get the FMS gears. I have heard that it makes the install 10x easier. All you need is a dial indicator. An impact gun would come in handy here, but not required. Maybe a REALLY big breaker bar!
