Both cars are 2.3Ls and 5spds. My coupe has 3.73 gears and his hatch has 3.45s. Mine is 100% stock but also a complete NO OPTION car. His has CAI, aftermarket exhaust, and the higher HP motor. His is 91 and mine 87. Mileage is similiar at 126K each.
Who would win? We are equal drivers.

His car has more horsepower, but yours may be lighter.

I read an earlier post that you were having concerns about merging into traffic with your car. I don't think you or your car are ready for a race.

First, if you are going to race do it somewhere away from the public and traffic. Make sure your car is prepared and you receive professional training. Practice safety first for everyone's sake.

To get your car running better, take some time and read some of the Tech information. Alot of these guys that post here seem to know what they are talking about. The 2.3Ls are treasures that need to be taken care of.

What years are these cars again? I got lost on the rear gears did someone swap in the 3:73s?

I would say if they was equal and you both was about the same drivers skill, that the coupe would win. I think the hatch weighs more than the coupe and the coupe has the 3:73s. **Now this is an opinion only**

88hp 3.73's Vs 105hp +exh and intake mods.. 3.45's Im gonna say the hatch. the DP motor makes more power and Tq, it may be a tad heavier but probably not by much. The gears will give you a slight advantage but not enough to over come his extra power. Did you put in the gears? cause all the manuals had the same ratio's only the autos got 3.73's

Use the Type-R computer and launch at 9k. Keep the rpms up though because if it falls out of V-tec you'll lose.

Ive been racing for a couple years so Im more than ready. We have an old airstrip that the land owner sets up races on Saturdays to keep down street racing.

Yes the car was originally an A4LD car and previous owner replaced with 5pd. Didnt do any other mods it was just cheaper for him he claimed.

We race at 11:30. Where should I shift for quickest times? Should I bump the timing any? This is my first Mustang and too bad it has the 4cyl in stock form. Im a Chevy guy but this little car may just change that. Its nice and handles great but just too slow.

Shift where ever your car stops making power at If you stop at 5500 shift at 5200-5500 rpms. My 93' 2.3L DP w/A4LD does good up to 5500 after that is drops off so that is close to where I shift.

I got my ass handed to me 3 out of 4 races. Only reason I won the one race is he missed a shift. Then it was too close to tell from inside the cars.

HELP FELLOWS my car is stuperslow Im wanting a 5.0 now badly!

That's how it started for me.

I got beat by a school bus in my '90 2.3L and that did it for me.

welcome to the 2.3n/a world (no offence bhuff!) Generally very very slow. Get the 5.0 and ill come beat you with my 2.3(*cough*T) , if you want to win and have a decent car, save some pennies, and swap in a turbo 2.3 motor...And So it begins

Me and bhuff had* (bhuff still does) some of the faster 2.3 n/a cars in here, i was running a ported head, gutted/ported upper/lower intake, advanced timing and nitrous...plus i added in a ranger roller cam and followers. I also removed the spare tire, and the a/c unit..to save on wieght. It becomes a decent driveable car that can keep up with some , but not many. I raced my friends a4ld 91 vert ! that was accutly a good race, oh and i beat my friends 93 1.6? eclipse (both of those were dry runs, no nitrous). N/a is fun, but turbo is fast

He raced a Fiero today and got creamed. It had a 2.8V6 and could boogie.
I am researching a motor swap but finding a good 2.3T isnt that simple.
