Couple of ??? about wheel/tire size!!

Hey guys , a couple a questons for you!..Don't know much about the 99-04 stangs.

Who's running 18" wheels and what size combo do you have? I believe its 18x10.5 rear and 18x9 front right?

What tire size?..I want the rear wheel to be flush with the fender.

Lastly is 17" better ?

it is all about wheel weight and tire diameter. the heavier the wheel the more unsprung wieght you have and it will slow the car down a hair. adding tire diamter as well will raise the gear ratio a bit.

if you run an light 18" rim with 35 series tire the effects should be hardly noticed at all.

I have 10" rear because the wheel I wanted was only availible in a10 width.

having you wheel flush with the fender is more about offset than width. you can have a 8,9,10,10.5 that is flush with the fender if you have the right offset.

I have 18x9 and 18x10. I was going to run 18x8 up front but they were back ordered.

I would do 255-275 front tire and 285-315 rear tire.

the selection of cheap 315 18's does not exist though. so you will want to look at the cost factor as well. you can get cheaper 315's for a 17" rim if you willing to run them.

I think 18's look better for sure. they can be heavier though. then agian some aftermaket 17's can be heavier than stock as well.

optimumly I would run a forged 18. lighter than you stock 17 looks fo the 18. problem is they are $400-500 a wheel.

The looks of the wheels is totally up to you. Look through the picture sticky in the Talk thread. You can typically tell the 18's from the 17's. I like the 18's better cuz it fills the well a little more. 10" wheels out back with a 285 or 295 should bring you flush with the fender flare. But like said above...315's are very hard to find for 18" wheels. But then again some people do have rubbing problems with tires that wide.

I know on my buddies cobra which we change his rims out ALOT. The only time he gets brake fade in the corners is on his chrome fr500's. On 17's it is great. Also he losses 3tenths in the 1/8 when he runs the 18's compared to the 17's and he picks up more when we throw my spare 15" et's on the back. \
But for looks 18's are the ticket IMO.

I had the same debate between 17's and 18's. Unfortunately, for the wheels that I want, if I get 18's, then it's only 18x9's (no 18x10's or 18x10.5's). I really want the 10.5" wide wheel so I can go with 315's, plus the 10.5's really fill up the fender-well. I've seen people with 9" wides get wheel spacers, but I really don't want to go that route. So, I've decided on 17x10.5's. I really think the 18's look better, but for me this is going to be the best choice, plus I will save a little weight. I think it's all about what you prefer, and what your options are. Good luck!!

this is very true. I can't remeber exactly but I think the only 315 18's I found were the pilots for like $350 a piece.

BFG makes some as well but they're drag radials. I plan on getting some of those for my 18x10's later this year since my Roush is not my daily driver. IMO, 18's do look the best but as stated before you're paying for the looks when you have to buy tires...

I'm running 265/35's up front and 295/35's rear....the perfect combo.

I wanted to run 18X10's in the rears for more traction. I have 18X9's all around and plan to get 18X10's later. Wish I did it "right" the first time lol.

I have 255/35/18's in the front and 275/35/18's in the rear.

They do make 18X10's for Saleen wheels. I just wished I had purchased them.

18x9 Chrome Saleens on all fours. 265/35 up front and 285/35 out back.(check out Mustangtuning.com for prices) Thought about going with 18x10.5 in the rears but when doing a comparision of 285's vs 295's when time to buy new tires scared me a little. Oh imo, it's still not gonna look right until you throw on some lowering springs and drop that baby... Check out "my grarage" for pics...
