I Just bought a 2000 Mustang GT in october and I went to the tire racks website and put in the year make and model of my car and it said the original equipment is 225/55/16 and then I went to discount tire and put in the same information and there website said the original equipment is 245/45/17. So which one is right? My car is garaged right now but I need new summer tires soon. I went and looked at my car and the tires that came with it are 225/55/16. So were there supposed to be 17's on it or what? Also is there a machine at tire places that can tell me exactly what the biggest tire is that I can put on? I want the widest tire I can get this summer but I dont want them to rub obviously and I dont want to do any modifications to the wheel well.

Standard tire and rim size was 16x7 with a 225/55/16 but alot of the GT's had the optional 17x8 rims, which use 245/45/17 tires. If your car the 16's then the 225's are obviously the standard size. You can fit a 255 wide on the front and back, any bigger will require new rims.

Most websights for major tire companies tell you what size tire fits on what rim. As does places like tirerack. If you want a decent sized tire your gonna have to get new wheels. Perhaps 17x8 or 17x9. Or go 18's. My 2000 has 17x9 front and 17x10.5 rear. It came with the 17x8's. Or you could look around for someone getting rid of their 17x8's.

ok so 255/45/16 is the biggest I can fit then? Im gona go with some chrome 18's next summer but this summer im just gona get tires. I have to buy a beater car for next winter this summer so next years income tax will get me new rims.
